Now OK to Blind Other Drivers?

Would you like to place a wager on that?

Wrap your brain around this......Car glass is NOT perfectly clear, it is tinted.

You are confusing factory glass tint, which is rather light and after market tint. They are completely different animals. But JustinH was absolutely correct in stateing that all factory glass has a tint. Look out your own windshield at the header, you'll at least find a gradient strip of heavy tint...and the glass farther down is tinted as well, it's in the glass itself, it's not some applied film.....Get it?

When I was younger, a police officer explained it to me with a tint gun.

I bought a car from florida with dark tint on it. He issued me a fix it ticket, and said that NY law was 70 percent visibility or something like that.

I took the car home, scraped the tint and took it back to the police station. The officer took his tint gun out, and showed me that the factory glass has tint on it. I think mine showed 72 or 73 percent visibility with no aftermarket tint on it.

When you break a piece of automotive glass, you will see the green tint built into the glass. Also look at the words on your factory glass, it will say what it is tinted to from the factory in many cases. On some fords it says "solar ray" or something similar.

This is not the rolls of tint film that people apply to cars, this comes from the factory glass and is in every piece of glass.

Glass isn't 100% transparent, but it's not "tinted", per-se. In most cases, it passes most of the light. My rear side windows, however, have factory tint. They are a little darker than 20% light passed, factory tint in the glass, no film. Rear window in the hatch is about 25%, I think.

Not even close the glare from DRLs using high beams are far worse vs. low beams in the dark. Why are headlights used AT ALL during the day? They are annoying because they flash your attention away from the car's motion. I am looking at glare, not a car's motion.

Why not just marker lights? IF you need lights for your attention to other cars, you aren't paying attention. Why do lights need to be anything but a slight contrast vs. the background.

DRLs (and fog lights), if they make any sense at all, should be regulated like all other lights to have a minimal amount of light (no brighter than corner lights) and carefully regulated based on directional beaming.

In Europe, you have to have your lights designed to make a pattern and not zap people. Fog lights too. Not in the US.

The idea of driving in the daytime with lights on is beyond comprehension - what happened to common sense?

My parents insist on using high beams during the day. I've personally never done it - in fact, I turn off my DRLs and lights during the day. I feel it's just a wasted drain on the battery/alternator and it burns lights out sooner. I don't feel either method helps in keeping people from pulling out in front of me or avoids potential problems.

However, I do agree with motorcycles using lights as bright as the sun and as many of them as needed, no matter what time of day.

It is a gang initiation in certain places to drive with NO lights on what so ever, until someone flashes them to kindly tell/remind them to turn on their lights, then they go after the good citizens and shoot to kill, kids inside and all.

This is NOT 'urban legend', as there have been documented cases, and confirmation by gang members.

And then they wonder WHY there are 'haterz'?!

That's urban legend from Hollywood. The same with gay sex in prison.

Unfortunately, it is illegal to have fog or running light be on without headlights on in VA. I have running light installed on my Corolla near the tag and aim toward the ground. It is meant to give other driver better visibility of me in heavy rain and fog because they can see the glow against the road. However, it is against the law to use it and I don't like using headlight on my Corolla during the day because it doesn't turn off by itself. Unlike LED running light, regular headlights left on during 8 hrs work day can mean weak/dead battery and that is a big no-no in the winter.

Are there aftermarket rear view mirror that can be dim and be of larger size. I have those monster size rear view mirror that can't be dim. It is a pain when dumb turds with high beams driving behind me. I would normally slow down to let them pass so I can return the courtesy.

I remember when I was a kid whenever we went to Windsor or across the border, you had to turn your headlights on. Now, since 1989, they require DRL's on every new car. They claim that the studies show it saves a lot of lives...who knows, I don't like them either.
