My recent engine rebuild was doing great but now it appears something went wrong. Found what looks like white Oil on the radiator cap and was told it is probably junk seeping out from the gaskets and what not. Now I am finding some very slight white on the oil fill cap.
The dip stick looks clean and looking into the valve cover reveals nice looking oil with no signs of water. Well know what I will be doing for Christmas...... Pulling my head to see what is going on

Something tells me this board sees a lot of this around this time of year.

Don't worry, there's another post on this as well. Moisture under the cap does not always mean a bad gasket. 90% of the time it's just condensation, especially when it gets cold out.

I would drain the radiator and the crankcase, and refill. Then, get everything hot and see if you still see the same signs. You didnt say if your coolant level was lower. Is your oil a milky color? Also, is your tailpipe emitting heavy water vapor smoke, even when hot? All these signs would point to a bad head gasket. Good luck.

Oil color is normal. It is Mobil1 with a quart of RL thrown in on accident.

No emissions of water out the tail pipe when hot.
The engine is not burning any oil at all.

Pictures speak a 1000000 words.
Have to really look to see the white on the oil cap in the middle of the cap.

Cleaned them both off will see what happens next.
Just called the dealer and there is a oil seal and mine is missing. So off to get me one Tomorrow.

Mods please remove my double post. Thanks

I would still stick to my original post by changing the crankcase oil, and flushing and refilling the radiator. Since the oil doesnt appear milky, and with this being a recent overhaul, what you are seeing on the oil cap is probably just condensation. Has the weather been warm, followed by an extreme cold snap? What you are seeing on the radiator cap is most likely just machining oil or assembly oil which had gotten into the water passages inside your block or heads during assembly. Get things warmed up fully, and keep an eye on it after changing the fluids. Good luck.

MAJA As the car is needed to get back and forth to my Daughters for Christmas time is limited but will do that after the first of the year and have the oil tested. And I was also told the same thing about the radiator gunk by another respected member of this place.

P.S. It freezes here to the mid 20's at night and warms up to around 40 during the day. Strange weather. Also replaced the oil fill cap with a new one and new gasket as my old one has solidified.

Replaced the oil fill cover and gasket this morning and just now it is showing signs of milky white stuff in the cap. Don't know what it means cause I can see a big pool of oil down in the valve cover and it looks great.

Sad news...............
Went down to start up my car to head to work and it would not start. It would fire and quit fire and quit catch on and quit. Checked plug wires all was correct. Looked under the oil fill cap except for some small amount of white all looks normal. Pulled the dip stick and about a half quart low hummmmm. Where did it go? Tried starting it again for a few times but got the same response. Fireing but not catching on. Decided to pull the radiator cap on a 30 degree day and the car had been sitting for 15 hours. Got sprayed in the face with cold antifreeze and a strong aroma of gas.....
