Not impressed by Rock Auto

I just purchased a complete OE drivers side Motorcraft CV joint from RA for my Focus wagon. The Motorcraft wasn’t available for the passenger side so I took a chance on the Trackmotive for the passenger side. Just looking at the Trakmotive it looked to be well built but time will tell. All in, both were less than $200 and it drives quiet, smooth, and tight. From my experiences I’ve never had a problem with RA but as always YMMV.

Family member had struts and bushings ordered for her older Sonata. Struts were good but nothing else fit.

For international shipments, all packages have always arrived in good condition. I think it's the carrier that damages the packages because when I see the Amazon delivery vans, it's frightening.

I've ordered shock absorbers, brake hoses, electronic modules, bearings—basically a whole bunch of parts, some heavy and bulky, and I've always received packages in good condition.

And I can tell you that for shipments within Europe or within other countries, I've received completely deformed oil pan gaskets, an empty catalytic converter, and counterfeit or very poor quality brake pads (Brembo). Every time I order from RockAuto, I first check if, considering shipping costs and customs fees, it's more advantageous than ordering from France.

So I'm generally satisfied with RockAuto, but I think that with the volume of packages shipped, there will always be one carrier who's unreliable. That's my personal experience, and I completely understand that others haven't been so lucky.

I've gotten hundreds of pounds of suspension parts, brake rotors, calipers parts etc shipped here from RA across the border and not had any major issues with packing yet that I can recall over the years. The box for the links etc for my TJ front end came a lil beat up but everything was inside and in fine shape, and I could barely pick it up it was packed so tight and heavy (I don't know how they even got it here!), fwiw...

There's no reason for shippers to treat boxes like that. I'd put it on them more then RA...

I'm disappointed I haven't gotten a magnet for the past orders! ;)
Make sure you check between the cardboard flaps in the bottom of the box. The magnet will often slip between the overlap of the cardboard.

I use them for air filters as they beat the local places prices by a mile. With shipping the same exact 4 air filters were $20 cheaper than autozone.

I only order for the magnets
Me too 🤣

I’ve bought from RockAuto probably close to 100 times. I can recall two issues ever, one time I had to eat a set of wholesale clearance rotors (I think they were $10 each) and I can’t even remember what the other was it was so long ago.

Last week I ordered 2 shock absorbers from Rock Auto. This week instead of the shocks I was waiting for I received a plastic valve cover for an unknown German car. The online return authorization process is a nuisance. I’m pretty much done with Rock Auto.

To be fair, they are not much worse than eBay or Amazon in shipping quality and often times you know they ship from a standard place as long as you buy NEW instead of Closeout or Reman (I would refuse if they ship me a used part when I buy new).

If you want dealership like service then you probably have to pay dealership like price and send them directly from a real dealer. I don't always need that, and I know where I am cutting corner. They are not OEM so I don't expect them to be anyways.
