Someone said in another post that the HDEO oils (like Rotella) did not have enough FM in them like regulare gasoline API-Sm oils do. I knew that FM was part of the SM rating, but are they suggesting that the engine would suffer by using an HDEO oil in a gasoline motor rated for SM oil?

We get BETTER gas mileage with rotella 10w30 Cj-4 than Mobil clean 5000 5w30 or Castrol GTX in the subaru. 30 mpg v. 28 mpg. What FM? Mo DTC typ?
There may or may not be friction modifier in an "energy conserving" oil, but an likely SM 10-40 won't have any since it can't pass the "energy conserving" test anyway.
So, there's likely no difference between a HDEO and a PCMO at the weight you are considering, when it comes to FM content.

I got better gas mileage with Rotella 15w40 than with Quaker State Torque Power 5w30. 18.8 mpg vs 17.2 mpg.

why no 5w40 T-syn instead for that 4.7? Since it is OHC I think the thinner oil might be a tad better choice?

It was in the summer months so I really didn't worry about it. I would LOVE to run syn Rotella but I can't find quart bottles anywhere anymore!

wal-mart has them here but usually only 2-3 qts left on shelf at any given time I look

I don't mind the gallon jugs but the Jeep takes 6 quarts. I don't have any way to measure out the other two quarts. Hey, I'm a little lazy.
I guess I could modify an old quart bottle... Then again Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w40 is less than $40 for a case...

I got over it by saving a nice qt oil bottle with the clear window on the spine (WB) and a little clean funnel used for filling. just fill up the qt bottle. Twice. Oh, you have to empty it between filings. In the engine. Now you will have 2 qts in the jug for next time, and yes the RT10w30 is a gal jug not 5Q.

FM are not needed at all in an oil! They only increase fuel milage they do not prevent wear not in the amounts used to enhance fuel economy. So who ever told you the engine would suffer does not understand the chemistry of oil!

My truck takes 6 quarts, just add 1.5 gallons. The jug has quart marks on the side.

My truck takes 6 quarts, and I always just buy two of the jugs. It's cheaper that way. And I use Rotella-T 5W-40, also. A 4 quart jug is like $19.00, and one quart is around $5.77.
So, then next time I only have to buy one jug, or just use the other jug for topping things off. I use it in my truck, the 4-stroke weed eater, the lawnmower, the wife's Eclipse, my mamaw's 2000 Park Avenue. Thinking of switching the LS1 to it, but it's been running GC 0w30 and might as well stick with that..
