I just spent 9 days down in the Chapel Hill area of NC. Drove the car down. Took an interesting (GPS chosen) route on the way there that had me cross at Buffalo, then clip across the top of PA into Ohio, then down through West Virginia, then Virginia.

On the way back, we went up through Virginia, Maryland, PA and New York. Crossed at Kingston (Thousand Islands).

NC is beautiful! I'd live there in a heartbeat. Saw all kinds of interesting wildlife we don't have in Canada, enjoyed the sun, the warm weather (though apparently it is cold to the NC'ers!) as it was snowing and -1C when we left Canada.

The Virginia's were kind of "The Hills Have Eyes"/"Wrong Turn"-esque, at least around the highway that I travelled. There were a scary number of abandoned/condemned buildings and then all of a sudden "Adult Superstore!". I've never seen so many variants of "Adult" stores in my life!!

And then trailers.... a lot of trailers. And not nice trailers.........

New York/PA remind me a lot of Ontario. Though the roads in New York are worse than ours. And lower PA was a LOT warmer than the weather we are experiencing up here

I have plenty of pics that I'll post up a bit later.

That started a long time ago trailers and such. Back then people expected it on 42nd st in NYC but not down there in bible country. It has remained, maybe our past NYC mayor should clean it up like in NYC. People did not believe me.Those ole boys don't always race cars.

to some they're not called trailers, they're called horozontal condominiums

(I don't think they need any former NYC mayors "cleaning" up anything...thanks but no thanks!)

Hearing you say the roads are worse in NY is funny..because the roads in NY are a million times better than they are in montreal. LOL

Live in Miami? This is a joke right?

No it is Rudolph Giuliani he made 42nd street really somewhere you can take your kids. He did a great job. He might make a difference there too.

You were on Interstates if that's the impression that the Virginias made...

Visit Charlottesville, Virginia Beach, the Chesapeake Bay and see some of the real Virginia....you'll find that the Virginia Beaches/Shore Towns are every it as nice as North Carolina. You can't compare the roadside of one state with the Crown Jewels of another and come up with any meaningful result.

Not surprised that Ottotheclown thinks the South is backwards, poor and needs cleaning up. Typical...

I miss all the porn on 42nd street. It was a rite of passage for us kids from Jersey to go to NYC smut shops.

The Mid Atlantic of the United States is a beautiful area. I've lived in Virginia and in North Carolina since 1991. I have no desire to live anywhere else really.

Yes, Montreal is in a whole other league, LMAO!!!

81 through PA is the WORST road I've driven on. Far worse than roads in NYS ... which, in itself, says a lot.

I've been wanting to take a road trip lately.

I second Astro's statement . Having lived in both WV and VA there are rural parts of the states and then there are the urban centers. Northern VA , Richmond and the Virginia beach area's are nothing like the western rural parts of the state. VA is a great state there is everything from the Mountains to the beaches , not many states can claim this.

Yeah about half the people I talk to in a day are in in the Carolinas. They all have great things to say about it. Though yeah they say it's cold when it's like 50-60 degrees. They always find it entertaining when I say it was warm today at 50 degrees. lol. I'd move down there too, it's very cheap to live compared to up here.

Also NY has worse roads than Ontario? Must have been the road you were on most of our roads are great compared to other states lol. Don't go to Lorain/Ohio. Roads have to be among the worst in the country.

Lived my entire life in NY and will never move back. I love it here in VA Beach. My entire family left NY and came south.
Better way of life all the way around.
To each his own.....

As one who lives off I81 I'll wholeheartedly agree to that. It's amazinghow much better it gets once you get into MD.
