Is there really a synthetic PS fluid and there is conventional? Or just a myth and all of them nowadays are synth?

There are several different fluids recommended by mfrs now: ATF, different types of PSF, etc. Which application are you wondering about?

What are you using for power steering fluid?
My 09 and 11 Nissans recommend Nissan PSF or Dexron Automatic Trans fluid (basically the red transmission fluid).
Last week I drained and refilled with Nissan PSF but was wondering if there's a better PS fluid.

For DEXRON applications DEXRON VI is synthetic and that’s what I use in all my cars that allow the type. As already noted MaxLife is another good choice. Another choice is Mobil 1 ATF but it’s rather expensive.

I believe DEXRON VI is a synthetic blend...it can be fully synthetic but many versions are a blend...when I had the fluid changed at my dealership, they used DEXRON VI and it is listed as a blend...

If it came in a Delco or GM parts bottle it is the PetroCanada OEM Dexron VI and it is 85% Group III.

Sorry, I don't recognize Yubase, or S-Oil, or NEXBASE, or any other purely Group III base oil as a synthesized lubricant. This is not to say it is not a good base oil for most lubricants, it is, but it is a essentially a super-refined, hydrofinished paraffinic base oil.

Now GTL is a different matter.

Amsoil, Schaeffer Oil, and Redline for example, do make ATF's with about 25% to 75% PAO, depending on the product line, so I think they can truly call their ATF's "Synthetic Blends" or "Synthetic," respectively.

Yeah kschachn that's what I use in my 2008 Nissan Altima VQ. Dexron VI.

Put in a quart and half in the last 4 years.

Using a small hospital syringe to pull the fluid out of the reservoir.

I love coming to BITOG because I find out that I'm not the only one who does the suck and re-fill method for Power Steering reservoirs. This is how I get rid of leftover Dex VI like MaxLife ATF.

Interesting to me as when I had transmission and differential fluids as well as the oil changed at my Chicago suburban Cadillac dealership in 2017, the paperwork as well as those paper floor mat protectors all had we now use only Mobil lubricants or some such...
