...air and first gear engaged (manual). Long title but I can't find an answer as to exactly why. I had my 00 celica with its front wheels off the ground. I started it and put it in first to turn just the rotors (wheels were off). I was listening for weird brake noises from a possibly bent dust shield. As the wheels spun, I shut the engine off and then a loud, sharp winding down noise occurred. Loud enough where a buddy in another room in our factory sized garage questioned as to what happened. What made that noise? Was it egregious? Am I am idiot?

A lot of manufacturers caution against turning the wheels with the engine (on a lift) unless you support the wheel hubs up from a full-down position. The angle is too extreme for the CV joints I believe.
