2000 Prism had new brakes when bought but the calipers started sticking out and the wheels were getting hot. After they fixed that you get a loud noise like something rattling very bad but worse than a rattle over bumps. The mechanic took out the parts with the long bolts and replaced them again as defective because you could actually wiggle it back and forth while attached to the car and get a little noise. He also used thicker grease because it was extremely thin grease. Still makes the noise. The parts replaced were Carquest. Don't know what it could be but when you apply the brakes over bumps the noise does not happen so I would have to believe that it is something that was replaced or involved in the brake repair because the noise was not there prior to fixing the brake problem. The mechanic has checked everything on the front end and said nothing is loose and everything checks out good. I actually had another place just look at the brakes so as not to void the warranty and they said everything looks great. I guess I will have to buy parts somewhere else and replace them and see if that fixes it. If not there must be a part on the car that something attaches to that has an issue although before the brake job there was no noise.I guess I will also have to check to see if Chevy has any tech bulletins on this. Anyone else experienced this?

Somthing wasnt done right. Anti-squeal chemicals, lubing and cleaning everything, shims, etc.

I had my pads break in half and they rattled like a mother, when brake was pressed a little bit it went away. Seems like you have a different issue since another shop gave you the aok.
Have the retaining clips or guides that are used as a track for the pads been taken off? This would give the pads some play to wiggle. Were the brakes bled?

Somthing wasnt done right. Like JHZR2 said.

I know the retaining clips were in place and when I dropped it back off I left a typed letter asking if the brake pads could be broken. When I picked it up he did not say but he should have checked. Like I say I think I am going to have to have this redone and probably have to pay someone else what I already paid to have done. It is a small local shop that has a good reputation they were actually recommended by someone.

May not be with the brakes.

Could be a wheel bearing or something with the cv joint. Lasstly, it could be a ball joint gone bad. If it got banged hard in a pothole it could have gotten damaged.
