No more enjoyment changing my own oil..

Been changing my own oil for 40 years; I'm 60 years old. Do it in all seasons, hot and cold. Figure I have saved scads of money, paid off my entire set of mechanics tools many times over and always know it was done right with the proper oil. Like anything, it has to become a habit.

I can relate, Nothing is fun like it used to be . I still change my own oil cause I am to cheap to PAY SOME ONE TO DO IT!!!

I'd rather change my own instead of paying for a nice big Christmas president for the CEO. I purchased the Fumoto valve so they should be nice and easy, but apparently you need to use your dremel tool and remove part of the threaded part of the valve to make sure all your oil drains out. Plus, to keep money out of the hands of the CEO, I only change my filter every other time.

I still enjoy changing my oil, but not to the point where I'd ever consider going back to a 3k-3 month interval though.

I see no one can get a joke (people have been complaining about my CEO comments, so I thought I'd throw in a ridiculous one, about me changing the oil in order to deny the CEO his Christmas present) - it's just a joke guys.

You need to read the Fumoto valve threads - people unthread the valve after draining and discover undrained oil, so the cure is to go at the valve with a hacksaw or (better) a dremel too. the threads protrude into the pan.

Scoobie, I was just kidding with my comments. No Offense Bud. Also like I said, I haven't had any problems with my F-Valve. Not sure why some cars do and don't. Mind you I jack up my SUV pretty good tipping the oil pan far back so maybe thats why?

You would know... I would never be ignorant as we are a very conservative "mind our P's & Q's" kinda society... Even when the government has us bent over we are still polite!

After reading through this, I'm not sure, other than that the O.P. is tired of the OCI, which of two conclusions to reach from all this:

1), Scoobie and Stevie are running up their post count;

OR,

2)Scoobie and Stevie are seriously in love!

I'm with Patman. After 25 years, I still look forward to my own oil changes, but with extended intervals on Syn. I get the good stuff for about the same price as regular oil/filter from a quick change place.

You're a funny guy. Scoobie is a good guy, I have read some of his posts in other threads, but I don't know him. Let alone want to take him out... (No offense Scoobie).

That's exactly how I feel!, It even got me motivated to touch up the chassis a littlebit to help keep the rust away.

I've done the draining with the Fumoto in a subaru and took it off after all of the oil had stopped.

Less than a ounce came out. I would not WEAKEN the soft brass valve anymore. As far as it sticks out, it needs every amount of strength it can get.

Don't worry about a slight possible amount of oil left in the pan, there is tons more left in the engine.

Move important things to worry about with a Subaru. (like head gasket leaks)

Back to the original topic, I've been changing the oil in my family's engines for over 30 years. As long as the design was proper, its easy. (don't ask about my uncles @!#$^& Ford 1993 exploder

After changing oil on my parents cars and now my own family's cars, 27 years and counting, I still enjoy it.. Now especially after the few weeks I've had, I'm looking forward to crawl under my 2008 G35 and 2006 Odyssey, and my parent's 2005 V6 Passat.. Just to take peak under the hood, chassis, look around..... Even if it's going to be only in the 40 degrees Fahrenheit or so..

Heck, if they let me change the oil on the 2002 E320 4-matic, I would too.. I did it once but they want to bring it to the dealer since the dealer charges them a pretty reasonable price...

My jokes can sometimes be hard to get unless you know me, but I do that intentionally. sometimes people who know me, don't even realize it's a joke, they suspect, but i don't let on, just to pull their chain. Canadjuns are also know for tall tales, especially the further north you go, like I'm all the way up in Sault Ste. Marie - the more outrageous the story, but still possibly believable, the better.
