I went to get some GC 0-30 for my Toyota 4runner V6 as this was the most recommended oil from this site for my towing season and no luck every place I went I cant get it. So I was wondering if anyone has any other thoughts on this? Hard towing in the summer heat should I try a diesel 5-40? or maybe a 0-40 synthetic? or is the 40 weight not a good idea?

Autozone and Pep Boys usually have it on hand. Most any auto parts store can order it for you, I got some from Baxter's in one day. Don't give up, GC will be an awesome oil for your rig.
Don't know exactly where in MA you are, but there are lots of AZ stores in that area. How hard have you looked?

C'mon GC is everywhere! - none at AZ? I'm on the MA border and buy it all day long. Options: Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w30 is similar to GC then Mobil 1 0w-40 or any Euro A3/B3-4 5w-40 - but this may be too thick unless you are doing really hard towing. Also, I havent tried the new rotella T5 10w30 which is a real viable option. Also castrol SLX pro 5w30 at your VW dealer. Here are some spec on the SLX:

I can vouch that none of the AZ's in my area of Mass have GC. Pep Boys do, however.
Any 5w30 synthetic would be fine for your application. That isnt really a heavy duty tow rig so I doubt that you will be doing any rediculous towing that would require any special oil.
I am also close to the MA/N.H border and have no problems getting GC

AZ in Plaistow, NH, Pep Boys in Salem, NH. Pep boys also have the fancy Euro low saps Mobils for VW and Mercedes, and RP and Shell Formula in 5 qt jugs.

Of course they would, it's just sitting in their distribution center. Not sure why some of your local stores don't have it, maybe it's a decision made by each store manager?? Should be around $7 a quart, less when on sale.

I ran an OCI of Shell Rotella T6, 5w40 Synthetic in my V6 4Runner and was very pleased with it. Next summer I will be towing with my 4Runner and will probably pour in T6 for the summer.
Right now, I am loving Pennzoil Ultra 5w20 in this vehicle....but I do not tow.

if you want to stay with a 30wt and HDEO.. i would take a look at rotella T5 10w30
