No Civic SI for 2027

There will not be a Civic SI or Integra 6 speed manual for the 2027 model year. They’re saying it’s EPA regulations?? The 2.0T with the same 6 speed manual in the Civic Type R and Integra Type S will have a 2027 model. I know the 1.5T with the 6 speed had terrible rev hang.

Honda will be stinging for some time with that large EV write off. Probably more than a few projects and some R&D on hold.

I hate to say it because the last time I owned a civic was in college, but man I’ve been kinda jonesing for a 6MT civic, maybe in white, lately. Old man in a civic? “I don’t need another car…” but it must be a manual.

Daily driving the rev hang was easy if you short-shifted. It’s almost like that’s how it was tuned. The boost gave it plenty of torque to DD that way (my son had an ‘18 that I had some wheel time in when he’d borrow my truck).

They should just rename the new Prelude the Civic SI and drop the price $10K and they might actually sell a couple. Although there's at least one person out there with questionable sanity because I saw one on the road last week.

The Honda Ridgeline is also taking a hiatus for 2027. Read that the 3.5 liter V6 it uses isn't going to meet emissions regulations for much longer, so it has to go.

The idea that almost no younger drivers can handle a manual trans doesn't pass the smell test. All the millions of motorcyclists that operate a clutch with one hand, throttle with the other and shifter with a foot certainly can drive a drive a stick shift car.

It was impossible to get a Sentra manual trans (outside of the higher end performance one they offered for a bit), even though they were on the website and built in the same Mexican Factory with manual versions for the Mexican Market. Same argument - CVT did better on the CAFE tests.

The Prelude fails on a few fronts. One, it’s nowhere near powerful enough to be a sports car, even though it looks like one. Two, its fuel economy is terrible for a hybrid. So it fails there as well. I don’t know who its target audience is!

The Prius makes more power and gets way better fuel economy. And the newest version is not bad looking at all. Put some nicer wheels on it and some lowering springs and it would look quite sporty.

Older Preludes were very light though and drove quite sporty for their time. Honda has always had better suspension systems than other low end cars did. And because they were so light they got pretty good MPG too.

I think you have some sort of revisionist fondness. The first couple generations were pretty light but they had old smogged 4 cylinders making almost no power. I don't think many made it to N. America.

The last couple generations (before this one) were closer to 3000lbs. A couple of the more well off kids in my high school had them.

They weren't what anyone would really consider a "Sports Car" IMHO.

Either way there is no market for such a car anymore really.

Obviously somebody too young to realize they shouldn't buy it on principal.

They should've switched to the 2.0T 10 years ago. The Accord was available with a detuned CTR motor making 250 hp instead of 300. The Si's competition has been in the 250 hp range for years.
