On my Dell Inspiron 530 I get no audio from either my internal or external hard drives. The external drive was used on a Dell Inspiron 5100 and work fantastic. I have tried many things making sure the drive is in the hardware list ect. A Geek I spoke with at Micro Center said something about codecs. I am guessing this has something to do with DVD's maufacturers(movies)not wanting movies on hard drives. I dont copy movies just love to have quick access to mostly music(concert) DVD's. Any help will be appreciated. OP is XP sp3. TIA

I suggest that you do one of two things:

1) Download and install a wonderful media player called VLC - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

VLC can play pretty much anything; audio or video.

2) Install either the K-Lite codec pack mentioned above, or the CCCP codec pack - http://cccp-project.net/

I haven't had to bugger with a Windows system in a good few years, and the K-Lite pack was what I had always used. The CCCP pack came out after I had stopped using Windows, and I have no direct experience with it, but it seems to be in common use.

Thanks for all the help. What finally worked was the VLC Media Player. None of the codes and other stuff did not work. Now I can listen to the Moodies while computing. Again Many thanks.
