Factory service manual for my mower calls for this grease but i am a little confused. I have lithium based grease in my grease gun but everything i read online for lithium greases say they are a lithium soap grease. Is the service manual calling for a lithium soap grease with no soap? I know its just a mower but i would like to use the correct stuff. Here is the part number for the grease in the service manual. https://www.cubcadet.com/en_US/all-products/alvania-grease/737-0168A.html

Soap is what the thickener is referred to as. If it is a lithium thickener then it's a lithium soap thickener. They're the same thing. You can have Lithium soap, Lithium complex soap, Lithium 12-hydroxystearate soap, etc. If you have lithium grease in your grease gun then it's lithium soap grease.

That MTD product that you list is an extreme pressure grease. It is fortified with molybdenum and zinc for high load applications. It's not just a general purpose grease that you'd lubricate the steering spindles with. If you're lubricating a gearbox then spend the money and buy the right product. Shell makes the MTD product but I don't know exactly which Shell product is the equal. Shell Alvania greases have been superseded by Shell Gadus grease and I'm not familiar with their offering. I'd spend the money and just buy the MTD stuff.
