Hey guys, need some help with tires. I don't know a lot about tires, but am not completely clueless either.

I have a 2012 Camry SE V6. It has the 18 inch rims on it with Michelin Primacy MXV4 that came stock. These tires are about shot at 33k miles...pretty disappointed to say the least. I am shopping around at different tire options and keep getting recommendations for the Nitto Motivos.

They are priced well and have a 60k mile warranty. Does anyone have any experience with these tires? From the reviews I have read, most of the cars they are going on are sports care like Camaros and Challengers.

I do want a tire that will be a good all around tire. I understand that there are different compromises when wanting it all..but I just want something that will give good tread life, be quiet, good for rain (bc it does not snow in Houston) and allow me to put down the power when I want to (that Toyota 3.5 V6 is actually a pretty sweet engine..way more powerful than a Camry needs to be).

So would you recommend the Nitto Motivos?

Had them on my 2010 camry SE and got 20k out of them. If you drive 70% highway I've seen 40k out of some of my customers. My camry sees 30% highway.
Currently have Goodyear Assurance Tripletread A/S and they are wearing great.

Just a side note the Goodyears have a rebate going right now too.

Goodyear Assurance Triple tread and Firestone Affinity Touring are wearing great on some of my vehicles so far. Sears had a really good sale on black Friday this year. Don't know if you can wait that long. If not, discount tire direct has good sales from time to time, usually around major holidays.

So what does the 60k mile warrant cover? Shouldn't they have been covered if they wore out in just 20k miles?

Going to check out these Goodyears now. Thanks for the recommendations.

Yes I got them prorated under warranty. I just hated having to replace them in a year lol. They rode pretty good but I love the way the Goodyears handle.

Also check out the Continental PureContacts

225/45-18, right?

Keep in mind that the Motivo is a performance-oriented tire so treadlife might not be as long as you like. However, if you can get them at a good price there isn't anything inherently wrong with them.

However, if tread life is a high priority, you probably want a touring tire like the Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum. Quiet and treadlife are paid more attention to in this class, and this Kumho tire is W-rated in your size so it can handle the power.

The TripleTred that other posters mentioned are not available in your size.

If you still want a performance tire though, Other good performance tires worth looking at are the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 if you can afford them, and the Dunlop SP Sport Signature if you can't. There is an $80 rebate on a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric A/S.

Although your OE Michelin Primacy MXV4 didn't last very long, remember that ALL OE tires are low-bid garbage, even Michelin. The "aftermarket" Primacy MXV4 you'd get at any tire shop, online, or at Walmart are much better than what came on your car when new. non-OE Michelin tires last a long long time, but they are very expensive.

Thanks for the great info. Glad you confirmed for me that the triple treads were not available in my size, I searched for them and thought I was missing something.

Although I do like the idea of a performance tire, I can't imagine it would provide THAT much benefit on my Camry for the increased price I would pay.

To me, the Nitto seemed like an all around good tire...that's IF the treadwear is as good as they say. I have read many positive reviews about them.

Going to check out the ones you mentioned also.

And I had no idea that OE tires were of different quality until I started a little bit of research for my purchase.

Today at Discount Tire I was quoted $805.00 OTD for the Nitto's and $850.00 OTD for the Michelin Primacy MXV4. Which one would you recommend out of these two considering price?

Most DT price match any tire sources, online or local, you should do online search to find the lowest price(tax and shipping if any included) then asking DT for price match, your only extra cost is mounting and balance about $20 a tire.

That way you have the lowest possible cost and mileage warranty, plus free rotation/balance and flat repair ...

Of those two tires, if you like compliant ride then Primacy MXV4 is better, Nitto Motivo has better handling/performance.

Check out the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Seasons. I'm getting good feedback from my customers with this tire.
Sorry for recommending the tripletreads for you when they aren't available in your size

I have had the Motivos for about 1 1/2 years on my car. They been really good in all driving situations. They handled well in the 4 days of snow and ice this winter. They are pretty solid in the Northwest rain. I have 10,000 miles on them. They are down to 8/32nd and wearing nicely. They are made at the Toyo plant in Georgia.

Out of those two, the Michelin. They're not even $50 more and they will last a lot longer.

For $45 difference I'd jump all over the Michelins. I have MXV4's on my 2010 Maxima.

In looking around, I couldn't find MXV4's in your size. Are sure you weren't quoted MXM4's?

Errr you're right! It was the MXM4's that were $850! Sorry for the confusion.
The Goodyear F1 All season looks like a great tire too, it's $3 cheaper per tire, but has an $80 mail in rebate..hmm all these decisions.

I only brought up the Motivos because that's what the guy at DT recommended. Otherwise I probably would have skipped over them because I hadn't heard much about them and usually stick to the well-known brands.

And now that I know the OE Michelins and aftermarket ones are so different, I might be leaning towards those or the Goodyears.

I've been a tire salesman for 14 years and I'd say either go with the Michelins or goodyear eagle all season. The nittos are a good tire but for only $50 more if go with them hands down.
I tried the mxm4 on my camry as well and only got 25k out of them in my 17" size. I'm partial to goodyear because customer service and warranties are in a league of their own.
Any of the 3 is going to be a good choice but for ONLY $50 difference I'd go with michelin or goodyear. I'm still waiting since September 2012 for Nitto to credit me for my old set!

We have Nitto Motivos on my wife's Mazda 6i (215-55/17)and like them alot. Can't really comment on the winter performance because we had ice this year w/o much snow. Dry and wet, they are an improvement over OEM in almost every aspect. I'm not positive we are going to get 60K miles on them (more like 40 to 50 would be my guess based on the first 15K miles), but Discount Tire and Nitto are supposed to be good about honoring warranty issues, so I am not worried at this point.
