I was on vacation recently and booked this car. Here's my take:

PROS:

Very good gas mileage.
KEY ignition.
Nice dashboard.
Fairly comfy drivers seat.
LOVE the hatchback access.
Somewhat quiet cabin.
Good handling.

CONS:

Weak engine.
Cabin visibility.
Weak AC.
Styling.
HORRIBLE CVT.

My Civic's CVT is seamless and does a way better job than the Versa's. Much peppier engine, Better visibility, COLD AC and better styling IMO. Even though it's a 2001. Way better gas mileage and better handling.

So no, I would not get a Versa. My Civic beats it.

Thanks!

My mom is looking at a vehicle in this segment and I have been trying to talk her out of the Versa, this gives me the points I need. Hahahaha I will make her rent one!

Mine is the HX model.

IMO- the sedan version of the Versa is the ugliest and second crudest (other than that baby Mitsu) car sold in America. The hatch version, at least has a hatch. Too bad they don't bring the European version-- the Micra in instead. That looks like a proper small hatch. Think Renault sells some decent looking stuff at that size as well.

I'm sure that Nissan feels that Americans are too unsophisticated to pay an extra thou for a proper B class car, but it is kind of sad.

My best friends dad was an auto wholesaler when I grew up and he would tell me you are spending a whole lot of money for a car so rent one if possible for a few days to make sure you like the vehicle.

By me you can pick up 1 or 2 year old very lightly used Versa's for a song and a dance. Must be a reason why so many are traded in that early.

My Civic's engine is way smoother when pushed.

You reminded me. From a stop, when I accelerated and it reached between 20-25mph, the CVT would drop engine revs dramatically and then pick up. Horrible.

I work with someone who has a Versa (about 5 or so years old) and he's always working on it. Little stuff always seems to break on it; no major problems yet.
