I have to agree unless this car is well used and meets a budget. A car like a Camry, Altima, Accord, or Mabilbu is far superior and you only lose maybe a 1-2MPG around town. The highway fuel economy is usually on par.

I would rather own a slightly older midsize car than a small car. It trumps it in every way.
Those are some really boring, spiritless cars. I had a high end 2010 camry loaner recenlty and couldnt wait to get OUT of the drivers seat. The Dodge Sebring rental ( w/ 4cyl world engine) I had in FL was way superior in overall driving dynamics. And the 08 Mercury LS 4.6 I rented trumped even the Buick LeSabre.

They make a huge assortment of mid size cars for all tastes. Basically it is whatever floats your boat. Just saying like Critic to try a few out.

To the OP:

Rent one for a day and put a couple of hunderd miles on it and then make your decision.

My wife just bought a 2011 Versa Hatch SL. We both absolutely love it. The 1.8 ltr with CVT is pretty sweet. The first tank of mixed driving was 28.5 mpg. That is excellent because the last two miles going home uphill. Owned a Civic once, and a Corolla. Never again for either. The Versa is quiet, rides great, and handles nice. Couldn't be happier!

These are both nice oppinions of vehicles that are sort of apples/apples or maybe apples/oranges but, not far off. I don't know if the PRESS would agree! Cars are getting largre today. I seen newer Corolla's that are larger than the older Camry's so, surfice to say that the Versa compares well to older Civic/Corolla(s)

And I agree that if you do your homework, a slightly larger vehcile might just cost the same over the same period of time and get the same or better MPG along the way. Although I'm buying larger vehciles than I use to but I still like a smaller car. Always have. I like putting them on like a nice worn-in coat/jacket. The seats in a larger vehicles fit my arse a little better these days.

Some of the best vehicles that you can buy preowned, 2-3 year old vehicle, are the ones that show good reliability but are in such low demand that they have no resale value. I have a friend and a BIL that both jump on vehicles like this. They always comes up with a cherry! I don't particularly like the cars themselves but what a used car value. Some BUICK's and Mercury's come to mind. Then they drive them and gets rid of em in 2-3, maybe 4 years beyond that and didn't loose much money. Always nice cars!
