Nissan matic D, Dex III, MerconV. ATF confusion

I did my most recent drain-n-fill on my '02 Maxima with the new Multi-vehicle M1 ATF and seems to work ok in that Nissan tranny (4-speed Jatco).

My folks have a 2001 Infiniti I30 that first went to Amsoil's Universal ATF and Series 2000 0W-30 at 19,500 miles.

Now, 49,000 miles later, the transmission and engine continue to work flawlessly -- and for the past three years, they've been living near Palm Springs, where summer daytime temps regularly close in on 110-degrees.

My dad took it to the local I-dealer at 60K and had them flush the transmission with more of the U-ATF. The shouted and hollered and gave him the run around, but he stood his ground and made them do it. In fact, he stood there and WATCHED them do it.

Later, the service manager told him that he was probably "over-maintaining" his vehicle, but that privately, he could appreciate why he was doing it.

I, too, have a 2001 I30, and I've always disliked that 4-speed auto tranny. Nissan/Infiniti really did a lousy job with their tranny engineering.

I changed out (T-tech) the tranny fluid with M-1 ATF at 30k. No problems. I did it again at 60k, this time using Molakule's SF Auto-glide. I'm quite happy with his (Specialty Formulations) ATF. The tranny is smooth (but could always be better based solely on design, or lack thereof).

Being hooked on Auto-glide, I'll stick with it, though Amsoil ATF would be my next choice for a tranny flush and fill.

I just picked up some Pennzoil DexIII. I just noticed that it's the "H" spec. Will this make any difference?

It's going into a 4 speed auto tranny on a Sentra.

I'm a little confused about the "H" stuff. I thought they were backwards compatable, but I was reading tonight, and it seems like they may not be?

Thanks,
Brian

The "H" is latest revision to the GM Dexron specifications and it is claimed to be backward compatible with all applications that require Dexron fluid.
