If this thing actually makes it into production, I will buy it immediately. Heck, I might actually go ahead and buy 2. Put one in storage for later on when the EPA makes it even harder for manufacturers to meet diesel emission requirements.

Sounds great, until they announce it will cost $5000 extra and the diesel will only be bundled with the top of the line, fully loaded Frontier.

And it will be cost more than most full sizes with higher tow ratings.

^^ This. That was my disappointment with the Cruze diesel. I have no problem paying extra for the engine, but I don't need leather seating and every gizmo and gadget under the sun, which makes the car cost over $25K when all is said and done.

I'll take a look at this and the Colorado/Canyon diesels if/when GM comes out with them (2015 I think), but I suspect that they'll cost an arm and both legs, and then the manufacturers will wonder why no one is buying them.

Glad to see GM is shaking up the "smaller" truck market. I really hope the new Colorado sells the heck out of their diesels and that Nissan brings this truck too. Now all we need is Toyota to join the diesel game in the states and Ford to bring us the Ranger with one and we'll have a competition among makers that offers us consumers some great pickups!

That would be the perfect motor for a 1/2 ton Silverado.

A "1/2 ton Silverado" is getting an engine w/ the same displacement. The new Colorado is the same size of full size truck from the 90's. I'm sure the new Frontier will grow in size just as the Colorado has. These new "compact" trucks are not compact at all, just smaller than a full size. A truck with the drive train like the one in the Fronntier will do more work than 90% of the people who buy a full size now. I love where the market is going.

I have always dreamed of a midsize turbo diesel pickup. Wake me up if actually comes out, doesn't cost too much, and doesn't blow up. (HPFP or similar fuel system failure)

I love the Desert Runner style too. 4x4=not needed.

Not full size until I can lay a sheet of plywood in the bed.

True about the plywood in the bed. I'm not sure if the new Colorado can do that. I know physically it's as big as a full size was just a few years ago but as for interior bed dimensions, not sure.

I guess that's one of those things we must consider in truck buying.

As for pricing, GM is going to have to be careful due to Ram making their diesel affordable in the 1500. I for one would have no problem paying the same price for a Colorado that's equipped comparably to a Silverado V8, even if it is less capable. I'll take the fuel mileage benefits of the diesel and the ease of driving something smaller than full size.

As for cost, I think GM has a chance to offer a diesel at a good price considering the engine their using is a global one. Nissan on the other hand, might have to charge more is it's a US only engine option.
