Did the UOA just as an integrity check on dealer using bulk oil. Additives and viscosity a little lighter than I expected, especially since I was 1/2 quart low (10%) when sampled, but pretty much within SP range. Results look good.

Looks good! Thanks for doing it and posting the results.

I wonder how the newer GDI 2.5s compare..

Looks good. But I would not be doing my BITOG duty if I did not inquire about why you were half a quart low. Does that mean you were half a quart below the low hash on your dipstick? If so, you might have used 1.5 quarts since your last top up. I also wonder if using dealer bulk oil - a hugely unknown quantity - is really the way to go. I will note that I am a huge enthusiast of the inexpensive oil change, preferably done at home. The dealership is not cheap, I'm sure. If this were my car, I would at least try to get QSFS or Kirkland oil in there. Good luck with this, and this is a solid UOA, my rant notwithstanding.

I was 1/2 a quart below the full mark on the dipstick. This was the first time I noticed any oil loss in 50,000 miles so I wasn't checking often enough.

My oil and filter changes are free from the dealer so long as I do my scheduled maintenance there. I get suspicious of bulk oil quality, which is why I did this UOA.

Do you plan on asking them about their oil or discussing the uoa results? I suspect you may blow their minds with your knowledge so be careful. 🤯

Too bad you don’t have access to a Gas Chromatograph. Or do you? 😁

From previous conversations with the dealership it is clear they do not know how to spell "oil". No need to confuse them more! :)

Wish I had a Gas Chromatograph! I could set it up in my garage and run base oil analysis all day for y'all!

the Nissan dealers I have been to for service one in NY, NJ and South Carolina had Mobil paper mats. could they use Mobil products

Thank you for sharing! Wear metals per 1000 miles is nearly half of universal averages.

I wonder how BS knows you could've gone at least another 2k miles? No TBN, no oxidation result. The only other potential number I see that could give a hint at oil life is the low Boron. But we don't know its starting value. Do they secretly run TBN anyway, and just don't give you the result if you don't pay for it?

Iron is low, aluminium is relatively high but looks good. I suspect most of the aluminium found in used oil is from piston skirts touching the bores. On tear downs those have the worst wear usually.

if the oil hasn't thickened, TBN is likely still in an acceptable range. And none of the other parameters are bad either

Have similar vehicle that receives dealer oil changes and I noticed the oil level was below full mark. The service manager gave my some line of BS about oil needs room to expand. Ever since I called him out on it, the oil level is now on the full mark after being changed and no makeup oil is required between changes.
