Hi all, This is my first topic in here. Actually, I read a lot of messages but this is my chance to tell you guy. Today I had my car checked at Honda Dealer and I also went to see the "FRAM" thing at the shop.

I found another filter called "NIPPON FILTER" the box is written "Engineered in JAPAN." Then, another line "Made in Malaysia." ei ei, I am fine with it because I am from Thailand anyway, so buying Asian things is not a big problem for me. I haven't had chance to take pics of the Nippon filter. Please allow me sometime, I am going to post it for you guys. I bought it for $6.00+TAX, but HONDA-FRAM costs $6.50.

The first impression about the NIPPON is the quality of the material. It looks better than another one. It came with the plastic cover the bottom of the filter to prevent something coming out?

no going in....

The ring's and anti valve's color are black. Have anyone ever used it? I have to wait for couple month to try it.

Have a great night..

The Nippon is an excellent filter and one of the first issued by Honda. The second, which also carries the AO1 tag is Filtech, another great filter. The next generation filter (A02) is a Fram/Honeywell and is junk.

Another neat thing about the Nippon is that it tells you right on the filter how to tighten it. It gives an actual torque rating but for most of us that do not have a filter torque wrench it also has 1-7 numbers in equal proportion spaced all around the filter. Once you hit the seal, you move the filter 5 numbers clockwise. BINGO! Your filter is on at the recommended torque. Not many filters have this feature like the Nippon.

I believe these NIPPON filters are made by Union Sangyo at:

Sub Lot 3, Lot 6536, Batu 6, Jalan Bukit Kemuning, Seksyen 34, 40460 Shah Alam, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia

http://www.unionsangyo.com/oil.htm

I picked one up marked with both a Mitsubishi and Hyundai part number recently just to take a look at it. They are selling for around US$6.

I have also seen them for Honda marked with a Honda part number on them, such as "15400-POH-305".

Their parent company is Union Sangyo Co Ltd, Japan. The managing director, director, and
factory manager are also apparently Japanese.

Apparently their machines, QC regime, and manufacturing techniques are all Japanese. I note one of their main suppliers is Awa Paper Manufacturing Co Ltd, Japan, which is a major filter material supplier in Japan.

The marking on the filter are in English and Japanese.

I happen to have some Honda 15400-PR3-004 filters, the old 80mm style, made by Toyo Roki.

The exterior of this filter is almost a slavish copy of the Toyo Roki.

I have no idea how it performs, but it looks like a quality piece of work.

I picked up several Nippon filters for my 02 CRV and 98 Camry for 2.xx/piece at rockauto.com. They come and go at this website. Very well constructed with circular gaskets, thick baseplate, and that torque stopper feature. I forgot what it was called.

Like any good BITOG'er, I cut open a new one for my Camry. The media looked exactly like a Pureone with a silicone ADBV. Not bad for $2.12!

Honda Dealer uses Nippon for economy oil change and FRAM for Premium oil change.... !!! 29.95 and 39.95 respectively. HMM But, I really agree that the construction and the quality are impressive.

Martyi, it is a good idea. I think I have to take a look closely.

Thanks you guys, At least, I knew who is using it ei ei

Hahaha.

I use Nippons...I'm happy with them. Used them on all my Nissans at some point.
