A couple of hours before this post I changed oil and filter in my 1986 Chevy Caprice with it's "6" code 2nd gen 350 LM1 engine after over five years

I'm pretty sure it had Mobil 1 10W30 at it's last change. it had not been driven since-only idled. I made the mistake of trying to fill the power steering pump with Mobil 1 syn ATF while the engine was running and it started blowing fluid all over

. Needless to say I got it changed with Mobil 1 5W30 extended performance and a orange can just in time to avoid the New Jersey snow storm. Fram only makes their model suffix 30 filter in regular for the SBC (only PH30; no TG30, HM30, or XG30)-now that really sucks

.

Also on a 2000 Buick LeSabre that has about 32,000 miles and only gets 10 to 13 miles a gallon I'm thinking of running 4 quarts of Mobil 1 5W30 high milage 1 quart of Marvel Mystery Oil "MMO", and putting a combination 12 oz. of MMO, 12 oz. of Chevron fuel injector cleaner, 12 oz of chevron fuel sytem cleaner, and 2 oz. of Sta-bil fuel treatment mixed into 12 gallons of 93 octane fuel and running it hard through the whole tank to try and get rid of carbon deposits and coking along with new Bosch platnum plugs and wires-will this help ???

If the LeSabre is getting fuel economy that bad there's something wrong and it isn't the oil. It could be simply usage such as extended idle times, infrequent use, mostly stop-and-go driving or it could be something is broken. Other than that, there's probably something wrong with the car. You might have very low tire pressure, dragging brakes, crazy wacked out alignment, that sort of thing as easily as a running problem. It isn't the oil unless you have run out or spilled it on your oxygen sensors.

For fuel economy, look at your usage patterns conditions, then make sure the check engine light is out, check tire pressures, then look at brakes, and then suspension and then finally look at fuel quality.

Yes, I believe that is a big part of it because my grandfather let the car sit around for very long periods of time and infrequent use over the past 12 years (weeks or months at a time). Also, he had a bad accident and the alignment may not have been fixed. The car also burns at least 2 qt's of oil every 3 miles and there are no detectable leaks ...

Sounds like time for an overhaul. That is more than excessive and needs to be remedied.

Wait, isn't there a bulletin that says that up to 5 quarts per mile of oil consumption is considered within the range or normal?

No? Oh. Poop!
