NGK Pro-V: Massive Performance Improvement

The subject title gives it away, but I'll share the story...

Was looking for a cheap, basic trimmer awhile back; no particular requirements other than it be marketed as a "brushcutter" (not doing that, but if it has the performance for such heavy usage, it should be strong enough for tall/heavy grass) and have low/high speed carb adjustment screws (so as to not be locked into garbage OE setup).

Lowes was having a sale on the Troy-Bilt TB32 EC, and the reviews were generally positive, so went ahead with the purchase.

Ended up being rather disappointed; took forever to warm-up, used a bunch of fuel and completely gutless. Fine for short stuff, but unless the trimmer line was kept very short, it'd bog-down and be next to useless in taller/heavier grass. Tried adjustments, but nothing worked.

Spark plug that came in it had no name and just a number; looked fine though, with no deposit accumulation and proper gap. Wasn't expecting much difference, but went ahead and cross-referenced it over to the NGK Pro-V (these are their OPE plugs). No one carried it locally, so went ahead and ordered from Amazon ($6/free shipping). Upon arrival, I made no adjustments whatsoever (same gas, same carb settings, etc.) and just installed the new plug.

All I can say is...WOW!!!! This thing is like a completely different trimmer. Ready to go almost instantly on start-up, uses significantly less fuel, and seems like it has twice the power as before. Now, it has no problem whatsoever turning much more line, and cuts through heavier grass without issue.

In other words, if your OPE isn't performing like you think it should (mower, trimmer, blower, etc.) and you've looked at everything else, give these plugs a try!

Ngk makes a great product, I learned that over thirty years ago from a Euro parts store owner named Malcolm. " Use Ngk they never miss a beat" Since then I've used their plugs whenever possible and never had a problem.

For the most part, I replace all original plugs on my OPE with an NGK after break in. Especially the junk Torch plugs. I bought a used EU2000i and pulled out wet, crusty, fouled looking NGK plug that worked fine. Replaced with another NGK and still works great (although that might be more attributed to the Honda's coil). I get the V-Power ones over the standard if they have them.

Yup, first thing I do when I buy some new power equipment is to chuck the oem plug (usually Champion) and install the NGK equivalent. Of course, if it has a Honda engine, you're going to get an NGK right from the factory.

Maybe I got lucky but I've never had any problems with Champion plugs for my OPE's. Even my Sthil and Ryobi's came with Champion plugs. Only my most recent purchase, a Troy-Bilt snow blower came with a Torch spark plug that I replaced after 2 seasons with a NGK just because I'm leery of Chinese spark plugs. Though it ran great for those 2 seasons. It always started up with no more than 2 pulls.

I use only NGK in all my small power equipment.My last boss raced cars and thats all he used in his engines.All my stuff starts on 2-3 pulls even after sitting for months.
