Next supply issue: Foam shortage on the horizon

I saw that the other day. Talk about weird shortages.

Although after the TP shortage this sounds less worrisome.

its already affected the Whirlpool Freezer factory where my nephew works.
he's still working, reduced hours, only 4 days a week, but a bunch of folks got laid off.

Having Supply problems on 2 fronts:
Their Foam supplier in TX having issues
Their Compressor supplier was a pandemic casualty. - usually, when a supplier is having financial difficulties and will likely have to close, Whirlpool will just buy the company, and take over.
this time a Chinese Firm Beat them to it..

so now on top of no/limited foam insulation, their compressors are literally on a Slow Boat from China...

our local True Value is going out of business. The owner told me a month ago that his stock was so down it wasn’t worth paying all the NY infamous taxes and bothering ton staying open even running the place all by himself.. He claims many of his US suppliers weren’t only behind but had completely folded thanks to that thing that shall not be spoken of and the people who kept things completely shut down.

Also a water heater shortage...no foam for the tank insulation. My supplier told me about it two weeks ago. So if your heater is slowly leaking replace it now.
Thanks for the warning… my T&P valve has the worlds slowest leak right now. Tank is older so I’ll just replace the whole thing.

The coastal areas of Texas and Louisiana are where a majority of chemicals are made in the US - Bayer(or whoever owns their former commodity chemicals and specialty products divisions), BASF, ChevronPhillips Chemical, and countless others have major facilities there.

while isocyanates are a major component of polyurethane foam, they are also a major part of some paints as well. The 2K paints a car uses needs an isocyanate hardener.

Pretty sure this first popped up when the Teluride had those stinky foam seats (or headrests?). Maybe somebody tried a new product and found out it wasn't the best for the application.
