Hey all, heres the deal. Dad was driving his 1998 Grand Voyager this morning when his output speed sensor seemed to go. Wouldn't accelerate over 20 or so and wouldn't really shift. I replaced that and cleared out codes, but at this point it won't shift past 2nd gear. Seems to still be stuck in limp mode but it will shift to 2nd. I suspect its either the input sensor near the bell housing or something internal. Fluid level looks good and reverse and 1st & 2nd work fine. Anyone deal with this? Error code is P0733, gear 3 Incorrect Ratio. Thanks!

Well after 30seconds of googling that code with 1998 grand voyager

Potential Causes Causes of this DTC may include: Low or dirty transmission fluid Mechanical failure inside transmission Internal blockage inside transmission main control Faulty Shift solenoid Faulty transmission control module

seems like you would get additional codes like a p0720 if it was just a speed sensor.

I'm thinking something damaged/needs replaced in the transmission.

Disclaimer: Not an expert.. and not real familiar with the vehicle.

If I understood you correctly, you had only first gear, then replaced the VSS and now have first and second? I would check the solenoids since that's really easy to do on a lot of cars, even though it should have generated a code (it did on my Escort).

+1 that would be my first shot. If that doesn't work I would bring it to an indy shop.

the solenoid pack is a ~$99 part and is pretty easy to swap, at least on the 41TE. the challenge is getting it clean enough before removal to avoid getting contaminants into the holes as you pull the old one out.

has the trans been maintained? what is fluid level? what is condition of the fluid? how many miles? when was last filter change?
