While at WM last night I saw quite a few jugs in various grades on the clearance shelf for $9.00 a 5qt. jug. I know this is recycled oil,and I would never use it unless I knew it was as good or better then virgin oil.Opinions on this oil?

Do a search, you'll find numerous threads with good info. Recyled oil is just as good as virgin. Used oil is a much cleaner starting point than crude oil and has shown good uoas that are the same as "normal" Valvoline. Many people here are using it because it was FAR, I have 16qts FAR.

I've used Valvoline's NextGen series of oil many times now. In fact, you'll note that I have it in our CR-V right now. It's a fine oil, and once I run through my stash of Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20 that I'm using our MDX, I'll probably start using the NextGen in that one as well.

I prefer the MaxLife flavor of NextGen.

If I lived closer to you, I would agree with you that the oil is junk and you shouldn't bother buying it. Then I would go to your Wal-Mart and buy all of them for $9 per jug!

Seriously, it's a fine oil, use it without concern.

Edit: also keep in mind "virgin" oil is still millions of years old and pulled from the earth in a nasty smelly crude mess before being refined into what you see on the shelves. NextGen is just as good as "virgin" oil, yes.

It is a fine oil but nobody is buying it. This why you see 5-qt jugs for $9: Code for MUST GO.

Curious, I wonder if that is the break-even price and Walmart is making about $11 off each jug sold.

why pay $9 when you can get it for free via rebate? not for long though i read somewhere that its running out.

$9 is decent but i still prefer FAR deal and also have like 30qts free.

As far as the quality of this so call "recycled" oil... Its the same as anything else. Go to Valvoline's website and watch their videos on NextGen oil.

The oil goes through the same refining process as crude oil. It get all the bad stuff taken out of it and has brand new additives added in once the oil is clean and the result = oil that is exactly the same as the stuff in the White Valvoline Bottle.

I have it in my Scion tC after using Amsoil's top of the line Signature Series oil in it. For the price, you can't beat it.

What doe "FAR" mean?
