Newer GM 3.1 V6's?

The thing that confuses me is that some folks will scream and holler at GM for the intake manifold leak that happens some of the time but spend the same amount for routine maintenance on another car (timing belt) every 60-100,000 miles. My brother-in-law has a 1999 GM minivan with a little over 100K miles on it and was one of the lucky ones that never had the problem with leaks.

with the timing belt, its a "scheduled" thing and many can deal with the predictable.

i think factory over torquing is partly to blame for the 3100-3400 fiasco.

Fel-Pro is working on a 'problem solver' gasket to fix the int man gasket leak on GM 3.1 and 3.4 V6's. It hopefully will be available soon. They already have a gasket for the 5.7L GM truck V8's which also have a leak problem. These are called PermaDry Plus gaskets by Fel-Pro. You may be interested in the Dorman OE Solutions approach to fix the 95> GM 3.8L 'Buick' V6. They offer a new int man and gasket kit for 110.00. I don't know if they are working on a int man for the 3.1 and 3.4 GM V6's. There certainly is a demand for one out there.

i have been using the dorman plastic intake for about 18months (just under 100k mi) with success.

but if i was doing it again, i'd use the aluminum intake off the Series III engine.
