New year, new VOAs!

Well, I got some sample kits from a lab, so I decided WTH... I'll burn a couple up with VOAs to gift the board and get 2019 off to a good start. I shook each bottle upside-down and side-side for about 2 minutes each to make sure nothing settles. Coming shortly to this sub-forum are tests on:

Motul 4100 Power 15W50
Chevron Delo XLE 10W30
Ravenol DXG 5W30
Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W20

Pouring all these samples today really drove home the HUGE differences between grades of oil in cold temps... it was about 29*F when I poured them so not even that bad- the Motul was like molasses, the Delo slightly better, the Ravenol was just a hair faster than the Delo, and the PUP was still so thin I almost spilled it from the glug-glug-glug because I poured it last and was expecting similar results to the Ravenol.

However, once they were in the bottles, they performed "fairly" (to the naked eye) similar between the Delo, Ravenol, and PUP, and the Motul was a hair slower but still very fluid. I have to follow up with the lab but I'm pretty sure TBN is included in the basic tests.

The old Chebbie 350 likes that Delo. Hopefully it likes AMSOIL more because it's like 3x the price! Still wanna see the VOA of that Delo.

Yep... I've previously used all of the oils except the Motul, which will likely go in the Outback in summer, maybe cut with ~20% PUP to thin it out just a hair. I am interested to see how the DXG compares with the PQIA test of D1G1 flavor.

Hey Chris, looking at this PQIA VOA that Ravenol has a slug of sodium in it

But, very impressive NOACK of 6.8

With that much calcium and sodium I am surprised it is d1G2 certified.

Umm guys the version that PQIA tested is D1G1. That's why I'm getting the D1G2 tested to see how much the formula changed!
