I found this over on BleepingComputer.com. A new modern day version of Winamp has been released, it is still in Beta for now but is compatible with Windows 8.1 and 10. There is a big updated version planned for release in 2019 with online radio, podcasts and other features. I have been tinkering with it tonight and for me the new version is a very welcome change, a much better alternative to Windows Media Player.

Edit..I had to add Winamp.exe as a trusted app and let it through my Windows Defender Controlled Folder Access, but other than that I have had no problems with this version. It works well and the sound quality is very good.

I used Winamp to play all the songs I downloaded from Napster in college.

Yup, and skin it to match your stereo equipment

Love Winamp and still use it. Way better than Windows built in nonsense. I use VLC for everything that Winamp can't do.

with the underbit MAD decoder feeding a 24bit Echo IO. Even got some of the VST plugins from the old Steinberg suite running in it. I love it.

Ah Winamp. Haven't used it in YEARS but played many, many hours of music through it while gaming some Counter-Strike back in the day!
