New Toyota Camry

Why not? I just swiped my mom's 2002 with 200k before she traded it in and slammed it into service on a 60 mile (each way) highway commute.

If you hate it at any point in its life you should be able to get out of it for good money.

Looks like a nice ride - I say go for it.
Driving a 2013 Sonata, and cross-shopped the Camry. The only reason I bought the Sonata was the financing rates - and better feature content for the same price. Over the 5 years, the Sonata saved $5,000 in purchase costs. It's been a fine car and will be kept in the fleet 10 years, at which it not owe anyone a thing. Due for the first brake job at 50,000 miles. 1 set of tires and that's it for extra costs over and above oil changes.

Camry is a quality product, but for the money I'd take a look at:

Smart choice. The Legacy sedan is overlooked all too often.

The Toyota has a 6 spd automatic which is preferable to the slide and drive in the Subaru, it has a by far more reliable engine also. Good, well made car.
If the Subaru had the old engine or the H6 and a regular automatic then without question the Subaru would be my choice hands down but Subaru screwed the pooch in so many ways that its now on the $hit list.

Although i'm slowly coming around to the idea of CVT after driving one in the mountainous terrain of Tobago this past week (Nissan Tiida), i'd still rather a conventional automatic transmission.

How does the six speed programming "feel"? My six speed Tundra drives me batty, constantly unlocking the convertor. A Camry is a different beast, but the one time I drove the automatic version of my car I wasn't impressed. Ok, it was responsive but after a lifetime of manuals I didn't like it.

Quite likely the programming is different today, five years later.

1) what is the msrp and book invoice price with delivery?
2) what is toyota's holdback?
3) are there any current incentives?

I understand the love or hate on the CVT, but what is necessarily wrong with the Subaru FB boxer engine?

It's a fine automobile and the others in the segment are as well. My choice would come down to price and personal preference on the looks and driving feel. Other than that, compact and mid-size segments can be treated like a commodity now.

It is a bit of a nuisance, my VW had a similar but better setup.

But it's not that bad. Just do it yourself, and don't overtighten. At least on the 3.5's you can change to the metal Venza version, not sure if that can be done on the 2.5's also.

The 'magic seat' is very spoiling.

It's really hard to go wrong with a newer Camry. I also like the smoky grey color, and if you are particular about your cars, the free car washes in the winter are going to be nice. I noticed you had twin Lesabres, are you going to replace one of them? The Camry will have somewhat (5?) better MPGs but less power, and is definitely a stiffer, harder ride (especially in the SE trim). I have sat in the 2016 Camry and liked it, but I am also a big fan of the Lesabre. This Camry is fairly well equipped too. I'd go for it! Tell us what you decide!

I have a 2015 Carmy XLE. 4cyl.

The car really likes the highway. Drove the XSE but didn't car for the stiffer ride. The SE/XSE seats are very nice looking, though.

I find the transmission in my Camry is not as smooth as the transmission in my old Corolla. But cruising at highway speeds at 2200 rpm is nice and the power comes on very strong if you want to punch it from 60 to 80mph.

I cross shopped the Optima, Sonata, Accord, and Legacy.

Didn't like the steering in the Optima. Car wanted to drift on the road and the dealer by my house turned me off. The Accord was very nice but I much prefer the way the Camry has the blind spot monitoring over Honda's camera system. Plus the Camry came with Navigation that was a $1200 upgrade on the Accord. I love the navigation system even though it doesn't find the quickest route or work as well as Google Maps.

Coworkers have Sonatas and love them except for one that has 4 of them. Three of them are great and one blew an engine. Hyundai is not taking care of him; plus the resale of Hyundai is a lot less than Toyota.

Subaru's reliability plus their lack of pizzazz and my great experiences with Toyotas pushed me to the Camry.

I'm having some problems with the steering column on my Camry squeaking.

I'm a Toyota/Honda guy but just can't deal with the Camry design.Especially the front.
Wound up buying a '15 Sonata.Great car that has a lot of features for the cost.
Rides nice,comfortable,roomy and 7500 miles with no issues.So far and I'm happy.No CVT and very good MPGs.
Great discounts but a car you have to keep because resale value blows.

Bad resale or not,I do have my eye on a leftover or new '17 Civic Touring,though.
