I am trying to decide on which one of these would be the best choice for this V-twin water-cooled bike...

Mobil 1 V-Twin Motorcycle 20W50
Mobil 1 Racing 4T Motorcycle 10W40
Mobil 1 Extended Performance 15W50

The 1st two are much harder to find and around $10/qt.

Thanks

I'd recommend the Extended Performance 15W50, essentially the old "red cap" 15W50.

You could also save some money and go with Rotella 15w40 conventional. I believe in changing the oil more often due to the shear you can expect from running any oil in a shared engine/trans sump, so the normal extended drain interval advantage of the pricier synthetic is lost.

If you use Mobil 1 15w50 use the regular Mobil 1 instead of extended performance. It has been shown to perform better in bikes and high hp situations.

It can be found at Wal-Mart for around $22 for 5 quarts.

The Mobil 1 15w50 is a good choice. as is any of the hdeo's (rotella, delvac 1300, chevron delo 400)

If you can get the Mobil 1 vtwin 20w50 I would go with it as it is a very robust oil with a good add pack and extended drains is no problem with it 5K+ if wanted

Amsoil 10W40 AMO or the AME 15w40 (available in gallons for under $30) is an alternative to $10 per quart oils...

IMHO, of course!

Cheers!

..this is what it looks like I will use. $22 for a jug of it is a decent price. The Extended performance is about $6.49/qt if you can find it anywhere. 2 of the wal mart's I went to dont even carry the EP beyond 10w30

Here's a link to a VOA of the Silver Cap 15-50 https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/new-mobil-1-15w-50-voa.80688/

Looks pretty healthy, especially if you're into stout ZDDP numbers. Should work well in your 'Strom.

I'm currently using Castrol Actevo 10-40 in my 'Strom, about which I posted at Stromtrooper.com http://www.stromtrooper.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19495 igniting another "oil thread" controversy. Kinda' like the one you started with your latest thread over there about oil ratings, eh?

I wonder why some guys are so touchy about oil. Personally, I like to learn as much as possible about something that critical.

I didn't like the 10W40 in my SV1000 race bike, same basic engine, as you probably recognize. Shifting performance wasn't very good with that Mobil 1 product. I see no reason to run a 50.

I used Shell Rotella T.

Hey SD26. I had a SV1K, which I traded on the 'Strom. Too old for the cramped ergos of the SV1K.

The 'Strom fits my old bones much better, although it IS a ways down to the ground from up there. Wow, is there a difference in motors between the SV and the 'Strom - the SV will eat the 'Strom alive!! Yeah, I know, the 'Strom is supposed to be "detuned" for tractability and such, but I really miss the 'snap' the SV had.

Anyway, I never ran Rotella T Synthetic 5w40 in the SV, but I did in my 1200 Bandit, and the shifting didn't feel as smooth as it did with Mobil 1 15w50 (the old Red Cap stuff), so I went back to M1 in the Bandit. I've used the Castrol Actevo in both 1000's; when my supply runs out, I'll probably go to Rotella T Synthetic 5w40.
