That's really not a "grippy" coating. It's just textured paint. It doesn't feel grippy. The future supplier probably won't be in America. Auto Zone is getting some of their STP XL line from China, and some have the grippy coating like Fram to. First Brands was not a good company

It will flow fine, meaning the dP across those holes in the base plate are not enough to matter. People can't determine flow very well by just looking at items that flow liquids.Base plate looks a bit restrictive, no?
Is it an STP brand? If so, STP extended filters are under Premium Guard Inc.Went to another autozone. I dunno if its premium guard. Any way you guys can tell?
@GRDeletopremium guard based on the “leak tested” and plastic cover. interesting, i guess PG isn’t wasting any time on the Fram acquisition (the nut on the bottom)
The only thing I'll say is that it seems to differ stock wise. Some are still PG. Some are Champ. My only concern is the nut on top. Since k&N got recalled for those nut welds.please do a C&P on this
The Champ Lab makes ones should have the typical Champ Labs date code like shown post 1.The only thing I'll say is that it seems to differ stock wise. Some are still PG. Some are Champ.
Yeah thats the case. It looks like it just started to get new stock. So I guess for now it's better to get it in person to confirm. The question is if those nut welds will hold. The Champ Lab makes ones should have the typical Champ Labs date code like shown post 1.
What was the issue with the nut welds? The only thing I'll say is that it seems to differ stock wise. Some are still PG. Some are Champ. My only concern is the nut on top. Since k&N got recalled for those nut welds.
NawBase plate looks a bit restrictive, no?
Those nuts are suppose to only be used for removal .. at least that's what K&N use to say about their filters with the welded nut on the end.The question is if those nut welds will hold.
Maxlife used to be made by Champ, as far as i know. With the champ going out of business, they are probably having new ones made by premium guard? Is the filter media white (synthetic looking)? The old Champion Labs-made Maxlife is pretty much the same as Fram Endurance, Amsoil EAO, etc., and some suffer the same leafspring-leaking issue. But based on your picture, it looks like they now use the premium guard filter inner structure. The only thing I'll say is that it seems to differ stock wise. Some are still PG. Some are Champ. My only concern is the nut on top. Since k&N got recalled for those nut welds.
Yes, the new STP filters are under the PGI umbrella. The one shown in post 1 was a Champ Labs made STP.With the champ going out of business, they are probably having new ones made by premium guard?
The nut has been used by K&N and HiFlo in Thai (who used to make K&N motorcycle filters) long before Fram did.premium guard based on the “leak tested” and plastic cover. interesting, i guess PG isn’t wasting any time on the Fram acquisition (the nut on the bottom)
