I am very surprised to see that Stihl has entered the ICE powered lawn mower market since their product line has been progressing towards battery OPE in recent years. I don't expect them to be very competitive in this well established market with somewhat oddball design and a price range of $620 to $2000.

Stihl Gas Powered Lawn Mowers

What do you think? Will they be successful in this crowded mower arena? Are they trying to fill a perceived void in premium mowers with Honda leaving the U.S. market?

Stihl is German, Germans like to reinvent the wheel and coming out with a new line of gas mowers gave them a green light to do so.
The number of decent gas mowers has seemed to shrink so I applaud Stihl for coming to the market.

Spoke of it before, my dad bought a Toro Super Recycler with electric start about two years ago with the 190CC B&S engine. It does a fantastic job.

Looks interesting. The one sided handle bothers me, maybe it's the unevenness or asymmetricness of it. The single lever height adjustment is neat plus the wheels are ball bearing for smoother rolling. I can't tell if the polymer bag is a hard shell type bag but venting dust away from the user is great. I couldn't find any information about who makes the engine, and where. What Kohler, and Briggs&Stratton are the only small engine manufacturers for push mowers anymore aren't they?

The top-of-the-line has a magnesium deck vs aluminum, not sure how much lighter magnesium is over aluminum. $1879 is some seriously bonkers money for a push mower. Never heard of Loncin, Chinese I take it? Only one mower shows an external oil filter or thats what I think it is. For the price they want I'd expect 100% USA made parts and free assembly in my driveway.

The cheaper ones have a Loncin engine, while the expensive ones have Kohler :sneaky:

That one-side handle is weird :alien:

Stihl's mowers are asking a question no one asked.
I'm not sure this is true. I have heard many people voice frustration over the lack of offerings, of ICE mowers, in recent years. Perhaps they are trying to fill that gap.

Even if you are right, many companies have proven time and again, that a business doesn't have to wait for the question to be asked, to be successful with innovative products. Apple and Tesla are two that come to mind.

Looking at the specs and features, I would definitely consider one of these machines, if I was in the market for a new mower.

Well someone needed to step up and make a grossly overpriced 22 inch mower to compete with Honda's prices.
Not getting easier to find a Honda - and I ain’t looking …
This 150cc 3-way was under $250

Dude, they have polymer grass bags !!!
(Never realized that I needed that) 🤷🏼
The polymer bags look like an interesting option. They don't really explain how it works but it says it vents away from the person operating the mower. Actually their most expensive push mower has a magnesium deck. The more options the better, but alot of companies need an affordable entry level product to get consumers in the door, but not always. The mowers start at really expensive all the way to insanely expensive.

I just mulch except for leaves which must be 5% of use …

I love my Honda, but full pressure lube with a filter is a major upgrade over splash lube in a GC160.

I have the Nexite deck version, but I can see the Magnesium being even better. It's not brittle like the plastic is.

I don't like Kohler engines. I've got one that needs a new carb every year. Yes I used Stabil and then canned gas to put it away. I have a pressure sprayer with a Honda engine that sits most of the time. It hasn't needed anything.

I know echo also re-entered the gas mower market.. but their mower is terrible avoid.

Meanwhile today I sold my 1988 Toro GTS 21 inch mower (Suzuki 4.5 hp two cycle motor) to a Toro dealer for $30. Still runs like a champ, but I no longer needed it. Paid $399 for it in 1989. That also was some serious shekels then for a mower.
