I have been shopping for a while now to replace the Hankook Ventus V12's that have been on my car with the new Pilot Super Sports from Michelin. My sincere thanks to Overkill for his sage advice as he also owns a sedan with big power and LOVES these tires.
Using 275/35/20 as my favorite 275/40/20 is not available in these. Since I have a Diablosport programmer I can set tire size in the computer to avoid any issues with the slight difference in size. The shorter sidewall just seems to sharpen up the steering a bit.
This car eats tires like candy. 2 tons of 180 mph sedan will do that if driven enthusiastically. So tread life has never been a real consideration but TRACTION is overwhelmingly important to me! This car has some amazing capabilities for a luxury car, easily pulling over a full G in cornering and stopping better than a Porsche.
The short story is these tires are amazing. Right out of the box they are quieter, stickier, and best of all, smoother than any tire on the car. I've had OEM Goodyears, Toyos, Hankooks, and now these... incomparable. HUGE difference in "clomp" as when you cross a break in the pavement or some built up markings at intersections. It's just amazing that a tire so HUGE can be so quiet and smooth, and 35 series tires are not normally mentioned with the words ride quality!
Braking is so much better, I had to really get deep into the brakes to get any ABS, and the hook up is so good under acceleration that it feels like I have 2 tires on each side in the rear! It's common to wag the tail a bit up to the 2-3 shift at about 80, but no more.
I can only imagine how these will improve with some miles. Hasn't been wet yet, but I have been assured that wet weather is one of their finest attributes!
