I was just at Auto Zone and they had a new display for Rain-X Platinum washer fluid. I knew they had the green bug washer fluid, the orange original -25F formula a light purple -30F de-icer, and now a -35F dark purple Platinum version. Why not combine the de-icer with the Platinum version as both are within five degrees of each other. Seems weird to have two products so similar.

Our Walmart’s only carry 32° year round but always sold a booster next to it. Grabbed one the other day. Well, looking at the bottle more closely - it’s just plain RainX that does nothing to protect from freezing. I bet some will get fooled.

I have been buying the "grocery store" washer fluid that is good to -25 F for decades. Nary a problem. And I can still get it under $2 at some places, not $7.99.

Just buy the -25 stuff and add methanol. A lot cheaper.
I will say the Prestone yellow washer fluid works amazing for $4 a gallon. It keeps re-freezing at bay. They also have an orange washer fluid with water repellent technology. The winter boost concentrate works well with existing washer fluid.

Good/Better/Best or Goldilocks marketing. They'll sell more of the -30F product with the -35F beside it on the shelf.

A secondary benefit is that they'll sell some of the higher-margin -35F to "premium" consumers.

I believe the Platinum is a AZ exclusive. They had to make it slightly different with that extra 5 deg.
Also a valid point - retail price match policies are usually limited to "apples to apples" products. Exclusive products give retailers a price-match "out". Change the volume of a toothpaste tube, add an HDMI port to a TV, etc... and it's not the same product anymore.

I got a bunch of -20f washer fluid from kroger in 2024 on sale for 1.99 but the 2.99 reg price wasn't bad either. They raised the price now but still cheaper than that. I ain't paying 8 bucks for it. I'd rather buy walmart brand washer fluid and rubbing alcohol to mix when it will get cold.

I always used Walmart one, -20f in BMW (heated fluid) and -25 in Tiguan or Toyota. Then Rain-X showed up in Costco. OK, got that. Bottles in all cars got dirty, in the BMW gasket on the headlight washers started to leak after one winter.
Screw Rain-X. Went back to SuperTech. I go through some 40 gallons of fluid in a winter. Same price, does the same job, and the bottles were never stained with some leftover junk.

Around where I am Home Depot has lowest price on winter windshield washer fluid and it's rated to -40F, so I buy that. In summer I mix my own using Nextzett concentrate, it works great and keeps cost down.

I can't believe the prices of washer fluid.
I also had purchased mine for $2 for 3.78 liters recently.
Folks purchasing that stuff for 7 or 8 bucks USD must be some high rollers!
Those prices (when exchanged to CAD) is $10.44!

Are you suggesting the Rain-X caused the headlight washers to leak?

Yep. Both, in span of few days. Which is nit big deal to change, nor expensive. But washer fluid reservoir in all my cars now have some residue leftover after Rain-X. Junk.

You know winter is saying hold my beer when you see this temp rating. Local Canadian Tire store.

We can't get that south of the northern border. I searched some last year maybe different now.

I've read to many horror stories about the Rain-X and gumming things up.

I believe the Home Depot one is REPEL and it also has water repellent stuff in it when I looked. I have Prestone Yellow -34F, Peak Blue -20 and now a bunch of bottles of Supertech Purple -25F, no repellent.

The prestone booster does lower freezing temperatures of your washer fluid. It also mentions "With dirt blocker" so some type of repellent.

The Prestone yellow washer fluid also says keeps frost from reforming . It works great.

It was listed on Prestones website. I didn't think to see if it could be ordered and shipped direct.
