Saw a commercial tonight and Quaker State is coming out with these new synthetic oils called "Q Advanced" Don't ask me any questions about them since this was only a commercial and just found it interesting. When it hits the shelves here at the local AZ, I will offer to do a VOA on a bottle of one if anyone cares to see?? Just thought I would share,,,,AR

Only one oil is full synthetic the other two are synblends. We have had the new stuff in stock for a while and so far no one has even purcahsed a quart.
I put the Advanced synthetic in my Mustang and so far so good. It doesn't burn oil any more!! With Mobil 1 i was burning oil!!
I've been curious about this oil too, it's pretty pricey though, so I'm hesitant to try it over Mobil 1 without seeing a used oil analysis or osmething.
Johnny, I wonder about the statement they make about "when the heat goes up so does the protection" (or something to that effect). What is that all about? Just a marketing ploy?
Distant cousin. Does not use the same base stock or additive package as the Platinum.
I see the product specs for the new Q oils are on the Sopus website. However, I am having difficulty getting information about when they will be available in Canada. Notwithstanding the marketing hype, I like the specs for the new Q synthetic blends providing the price will be competitive.
Just like those "Degree" deodorant commercials...heat actiavted protection.

Well, it is heat activated so to speak. I'm sure that Terry or Molakule can answer this better than I, but here goes. The new Q line has more AW adds than most oils. Different AW additives kick in at different temps. Have you ever run a car till the temp guage pegged and it felt like it's toung was hanging out and loosing power? Well it won't happen with this oil. You run it hot and the AW additives and friction modifiers keep on working. That's the best I can explain it. And no, it's not deodorant. I believe it says on the back label that repeated contact with skin could cause cancer, so it ain't going under my arms.

You mean there's not going to be a corporate crossover deal between QS and Old Spice?

The simple answer to your question is yes, it's a good oil.
IMHO most of those that have lost "faith" in QS never used it in the first place, and those that never had "faith" in it was because of some stupid rumor from the 40's or 50's.
I've used Pennzoil for over 40 years but I don't put "faith" in it. I only put "faith" in one thing, but I can't talk religion on this board.

My thing is, most of the people I know cringe at the though of uzing Pennzoil, because of the nasty sludge issue going around, probably what you would describe as one of those rumors. I have to admit, when I heard about it I told my oil change place to use anything BUT Pennzoil. But, that bad rap seems to have carried over to QS as well (not sludge per se, just in general) and so that's where all the disbelief that QS could actually make a GOOD oil is coming from. At least from me it is. But like many other's on this forum, I've learned a great deal of knowledge, and I'm actually considering using the new Platinum when my GC stash runs out. I might even try the Q Advanced..but that's a big maybe lol.
Maybe Dennis Leary gave QS that bad rap...

They claim that their 10w30 meets ACEA A3-02, while being just 10.50 cSt @ 100C. They did not list their HTHS though. I think for A3, it needs to have > 3.5 HTHS? If so, I can't imagine a 10.50 cSt oil meeting 3.5 HTHS...

All is fair in sales and marketing. I work for a company that is the leader in our field. If the salesman for brand X cannot beat us on spec, the salesman for brand X makes up a reason for the client to switch brands. As an engineer, I do a lot of what I call "rumor control", telling the client about ACTUAL specs, and ACTUAL performance.
I wonder if the lubricant business has some of the same "if I can't beat you on spec, I will make up a reason" sales and marketing types. That would help explain some of the very persistant rumors we hear about on BITOG
