Does anyone else here think it's ridiculous how SOPUS markets Quaker State Q products. One gives you more HP while another gives you more torque.
smirk.gif

Just put out a high quality synthetic oil and market it as such. To me it just confuses the consumer.

Oh, you don't understand the marketing mindset!
crazy.gif

I agree. Mobil is the worst and the others are sad. ANYONE who falls for this HM this and Q that deserve to hand over their $$.
bop.gif

I've never had to use HM oils (and have engines that pass 200k with ease on their way upward).

And according to the oil companies, once I make 75k IF I CARE about my engine, I BETTER use the HM oil.
laugh.gif

Valvoline has 75,000 miles on their bottle.
pat2.gif

If I use Q power I guess I'll smoke Corvettes with my Corolla!

I must be clueless...

Bill, Mobil is far from the worst. Only recently have they gotten into the "HM" B/S. They have always been great at marketing Mobil 1 because they always based it on performance. Valvoline/SoPUS and others are IMHO much worse than Mobil.

Hey buster, lets take that thought one step in another direction...Are HM oils really all THAT much better in additive package structure in the first place?

From what I've read and have searched for, their are some pretty darn good regulation petroleum based oils out there, along with the gamout of synthetics and boutiques for nut cases like me...

I see they're still using that Triple X-Rated see through bottle; don't they know that little kids walk down the oil isles sometimes too?

Lets see...

The famous Mobil Drive Clean.

We also had Drive Clean plus.
smirk.gif

Then we went to Mobil Clean 5000 (which kept engines cleaner than other oils) and you could run longer than 5000 miles *if* your MFG had longer OCIs or follow OLM.

Oh, wait.. We have Mobil Clean 7500. You can run that 7500 miles. BUT ONLY if your is out of Warrenty or has a MFG OCI of 7500 miles.

Quote- ( Since the Mobil High Endurance Motor Oils exceed industry and car builder requirements, drivers can rest assured that their engine is well protected. As long as drivers follow the oil-change-interval guidelines set forth in their owner’s manuals, they won’t have to worry about voiding their warranties )

(so follow the MFG OCI which you could do with Mobil Clean 5000)
confused.gif

Also, I did not see this test... Quote again from Mobil (Mobil Clean 5000 and 7500 technology has been tested extensively in various vehicles, under both normal and severe conditions, such as the Las Vegas desert and urban city streets, to prove that the products deliver outstanding performance and protection)

dunno.gif

They only had the Mobil 1 Las vegas B S test...

Then we have Mobil 1. Make sure you run it ONLY as long of an OCI as the MFG states or OLM. No longer.
nono.gif

Mobil 1 EP, Now that you can run to 15k only if out of warrenty or if your MFG states you can have an OCI. If the MFG states 5k OCIs, you need to run EP 5k OCI for the warrenty to stay in effect.

Then Mobil 1 HM..

I can wait for Mobil 1 B S oil!
grin.gif

Buster, they all (oil compaines with the exception of Chevron) come up with flavor of the month.

I'm glad I don't fall for it. I just want to protect my engines so they get the best performance, excellent MPG and last a long time.

I've been getting that for the last 30 plus years I've been driving and never had to buy and use Q this or HM, EP that. Or Start up. Or plus..
dunno.gif

Just change the oil and drive the car. Works pretty well for me and all the engines that my family have had and run today.

Bill, all oil companies use marketing to sell their oils. I realize that. The reason you can get away with using conventional oil Bill is because you don't run extended drains and you don't have a high performance car. I agree with you that a lot of the marketing fluff is B/S, but oils DO vary in quality. With SM technology oils are so good that they have really marginalized synthetics. The oils you are using Bill now are of synthetic quality and some are using synthetic base oils (Grp III).
cheers.gif

On BITOG, most of us TEST oils via oil analysis and don't by into the fluff anyway. 99% of us don't need synthetics. Synthetics are simply excel in high/low temps and extended drain intervals. If you are not in that category, it's a waste of money.

If you look at what Terry has done for that Audi program, it's clear that all oils are NOT the same. In a Toyota Corolla you can run any oil you wish. If you had a Corvette would you still be using your .99 cent Walmart oil? I don't think so.

I agree.

Most cars on the road would be just fine with supertech walmart oil.

Its the select few with high performance engines, turbochargers, superchargers, etc that really need the synthetic.

For my econoboxes, I buy whatever is on sale.

No there is some difference BUT you said it. 99% of folks DON'T NEED it.

It does not get any colder in NJ than Utah. So you and I don't need the Syn for cold or hot temps.

Plenty of folks running conventional in their hondas for 10k ocis or OLM and will have no issues with their engines.

I don't run extended OCIs because of the cost. (my oil change incl filter is less than $5) I have history knowing that if I change out the oil every 4-5k I can have a nice happy motor for a LONG life.
fruit.gif

It just blows me away that we have people here who spend the $$ for Mobil 1 and change it every 3k because they want the most protection and if you or I don't, we don't care for our engines.
pat2.gif

Mobil thanks them!

PS: WHEN
grin.gif
I get a vette, I will be running whatever syn is on sale.
cheers.gif

PPS: My outback will be getting syn only because of Checkers 99 cent PP deal. So when I'm done running my 25 quarts of it, I'll be back to conventional oil. I will also be done a few UOAs between syn and conventional to see any difference.
