New PC

getting dated. but not too bad. the 9950x3d is around 70k on cpumark
your current pc around 18k

I replaced my skylake i7-6700k with a i7-13700k last year
4-5x faster. quite a bump.

Videocard right now is terrible market.
nvidia has nonexistent stock.
She's a pretty serious gamer, and runs a 4K screen. However most of the games she plays run OK. One game Wolfenstein II runs the video card out of memory. The other games run pretty much OK. I don't think the processor is the limit.

Even so, I want her old rig.... My PC is really old.

processor can affect microlag, and time between frame consistency. It is decently matched to her current video card though.
It wouldnt make sense to put a 5080, 9070xt or similar in that pc.

now on a 9950x3d it doesnt make sense to build that monster without a crazy video card otherwise you might as well save some dough on the processor too.

on my skylake build I ran a 2060 and it too was ok (2070) would have been ok too..
but when I built my new pc the 2060 was definitely holding it back took me a month to get ahold of a 4070ti at a decent(for these times) price.

one of these days i’ll try to buy a new card. probably wait for the 6000 series. the 3080 still does what i need (1440p 170fps)

after i finally got rid of all of the RGB garbage with Open RGB.
11 Noctua NFA-14’s lol

new parts:
9950X3D
Asrock X870E Taichi (EATX)
NZXT 1000w psup
1TB Crucial T705
Arctic Freezer III 420mm AIO

Your 9950X3d came in????
I am supposedly number 1 on waitlist at my local shop and havent gotten mine yet ..
When I do I may upgrade one of my two 2T samsung 990 PROS to a 4T.
RAM I will likely leave alone am at 64GB DDR5 and unsure if 128 wouldnt slow it down.

Besides with an X3D Cache i will likely make less use of my RAM anyway.

How much did you pay for the 9950X3D?

Also thats a serious cooler.
I have the 360mm model and doubted myself if we even need that much cooling for an AMD product (I have a 7800X3D right now)
But maybe the 9950X3d will run a bit hotter?
Anybody know?

Nice!

I just put together a much more modest setup:

Ryzen 5 7600x
Gigabyte B650 motherboard
32GB DDR5 Crucial 6400 Ram
2 TB Samsung Gen 4 M.2
1 TB Team group Gen 4 M.2
Intel Arc B580 GPU (great budget 1440P card.)
MSI 650W Gold PSU
Thermal take View 170 case
Peerless Assassin 2 fan cooler

Runs most games at 1440P nice and smooth.

$771 out the door at the local microcenter.

would highly advise staying at 32 GB is possible. 32gb 6400 CL30 is about as happy as you can make a 9950X3d.

i’m not a fan of samsung drives, crucial has always taken care of me, plus the T705 is the fastest drive on the market right now.

i run at about 65° with my 420mm and 6 noctua NFA-14’s on push pull duty. it makes some heat lol. i’m also on a -20mv PBO curve.

Did you consider the Taichi Lite, which is ironically named since it's the same board w/o any RGB

not quite 100% the same. for the $100 premium i believe the full fledged taichi is worth it.

Same here, OEM Samsung's are awesome like the ones that come in HP business line. but their regular available consumer drives leaves lifespan to be desired. I order only crucial SSDs for work and since 2016, I think only one or two of them have failed at all.

The worst I've come across among the name brands is SanDisk and Kingston. I don't think I have a seen a SanDisk that hasn't failed, despite their great SD cards.
