My truck just got out of the bodyshop after an accident, the hood was one of the items that was replaced/repainted. Overall the paint job looks pretty good, but I had something happen that raised some concern about it. I'm hoping someone with more knowledge than I can either tell me this is normal, or let me know if I this is something I should raise with the bodyshop.
A couple days after I got it back I noticed some pencil eraser sized brown spots of some material on the hood. The best description I can come up with is that it looked like someone had dropped hot caramel on my hood. It was that color, and was raised so whatever it was had to be somewhat stiff before it dried and hardened.
I tried using my fingernail to scrape it off. That worked ok, but on the second spot I tried my fingernail got under the corner of the spot and pulled it off completely. Great, except it pulled the paint off with it down to the primer.
So I have about a 2MM x 2MM "chip" in my paint.
Whatever this stuff was must have been water based, because it disapeared when I drove through a rain storm.
If I caused the chip because I was stupid and shouldn't have done what I did - I'm ok with that and will consider it a painful lesson learned. I'm not looking to blame anyone for something I did to myself. It just raises some questions in my mind about the adhesion of the new paint and whether or not I should have been able to do this. I have no clue, and thought someone on here might be able to lend insight.
Any thoughts?
