New overheat record!

Customer had a plastic radiator tank split. He went ahead and drove the truck to us instead of having it towed.

Truck is a 1995 F250 with a 460. This is the hottest I have ever seen an engine. Previus record was 335 from a Lexus.

After letting it cool it does start. I'm sure that at the minimum it's going to have headgasket issues soon.

When it drove to us the customer left it running when he went inside to talk to us. I moved it about 10 ft to get it out of the way and just touching the gas pedal brought lots of detonation.......Sounded like a diesel.

I'm replacing the radiator per the customers request. Put 6 gallons of water/ anti freeze mix in it. 6 gallons is total capacity so it boiled any coolant out of the engine and was completly empty.
 
It' be ok just tell the customer to tow it (any vehicle)if it ever happens to them again.Those are real stout blocks,warpage will be minimal. .and at least you should get a complete tune-up outta them.If i were the owner ,well ,it wouldn't have happened ,but i would want a complete tune up "just to make sure".


Is this one of those new plastic [censored](rad tanks)?

I would just quench that with come ice water....

Seriously, the two women I have helped obtain vehicles have gotten the "overheat=ruined" speech for their aluminum block engines. I told them "there is no redo on this decision"
 
I'll bet you anything this engine will be just fine.

I've read lots of stories about iron-block engines from the 1970's being hideously overheated, and once the rad is replaced and coolnat filled back up, the keep running just fine for years.

Nothing to see here....move along, please....

Ya that was the head above an exhaust port. Those are usually prety warm anyway.

Truck left today. Seemed to have survived it's near death experiance. Prolly see it again soon for mysterious coolant loss.
