NEW OIL - Lucas 5W-40 100% Synthetic

I was at C-T the other day, looking at the oil section, when I saw an odd bottle of oil - it was a bottle of Lucas 5W-40 100% synthetic motor oil. It was a white bottle, with a gold and black label and a black cap, and I don't remember exactly, but it meets some, if not all, the 500-series VW requirements. I looked on the lucasoil.com website, and I can't see any listing or information for it at all.

The price shocked me - $14.79 a quart! Yow - at that prce, it had better be the best darn oil out there - even Redline and Amsoil are 'only' $12.99 a quart! It's the most expensive retailed synthetic I have ever seen. Anyone know anything about this oil? I know Lucas oils and products aren't held in very high regard on this site, but this may be a new one to look into, especially for Euro car owners, if it is any good.

It might be a great oil, but I'll look at it and laugh if nothing else. If Lucas can guarantee in writing their oil will make my cars last ten times longer than my $1.48 a quart TropArtic synthetic blend, I'll be happy to buy it.

Until then, I think I'll pass.

Even if I had an ultra-high performance machine, I'd see no reason to go any more expensive than Mobil 1, Royal Purple, Pennzoil Platinum, or....gasp!...Red Line.

What would those prices equate to in USD? The Amsoil is only supposed to retail for $6.85 USD/qt. (I pay much less as a preferred customer). The exchange rate is now almost 2X??!? Or are your import taxes off the charts??

Many on this site dislike Lucas. I have used their 5W-20 in my sons Focus and 5W-30 in my other Fords and all was well.

I should clarify.....In C-T, Amsoil 5W-30 and 10W-30 is $9.99 CAD a quart....its only the 0W-30 that is $12.99 a quart. All grades of Redline are $12.99 a quart. As for the Lucas....that price is simply not worth it...I don't think it can do something that the other can't that is worth an extra $3 - $5.00 a litre!

Of course, because I'm on this site, I thought about using it, but at that price it had better last 2+ years in the sump!

Crappy Tire is making extra profit on those imported oils as the US dollar drops, since they haven't dropped their cdn prices.

$14.79 cdn is worth about $12.85 us.

If Lucas is making a full synthetic that should mean it will only take half a day to empty a litre in a engine,because their oil additive takes a week and day if you don,t spoon it out

I constantly run into truckers, at an interstate java stop, that claim I should do my cop car a favor by adding a qt., of Lucus oil conditioner. It looks like a big goop of mucus, and has to play havoc with the other four quarts of whatever is in there.

THe regular "Heavy Duty" is 110!!! Here's the page for the synth oil. The PDF's are on the right. But I don't see 5W40?

You are correct on the Heavy Duty product. I should have included there were two diferent products..the synthetic probably better for most automobile applications, which is why I posted about it.

The 5W-40 only shows up so far as I can find on sales sites, so I can only assume it is brand new and the Lucas website has not been updated since the 5W-40 came out?
