New oil dilemma imagine that!

Well ive got auto RX in the 300 inline 6cyl in my ford pickup right now. When I finish with that I will be using Amsoil for extended drains. Im hoping to go one year. Now for the dilemma, I have been looking at the Amsoil 5w30 and 0w30. Amsoil also lists 5w20 and 0w20 in their online application guide. The owners manual calls for 10w or 5w30 SG. Any of you lubrication experts care to share your thoughts on this lubrication dilemma??

uhh go with 5w30 since thats what your truck calls for.. lol sounds like a good place to start

Doesn't get that cold in KY, does it? I'd use 10w30--Maxlife to be specific.

maxlife is good stuff.. question to tallpaul. isnt maxlife thicker (5w30 and 10w30) than most oils and blends in the same weight??

Since 90% of engine wear comes from startups, Id go with the max startup protection as possible...0w30.

0w30, 5w30 and 10w30 are all the same weight at operating temps. The only difference is how easy they flow at startup.

See, thats why Im looking at the 5w 0w oils, for the start up viscosity. Im currently running delo 400 10w30 but my supply of that is running out and so far I have been impressed with the Amsoil products that I have used. I was kind of surprised to see the xw20 oils on their online app list. Its got me thinking(bad).

Don't worry about the SG. The newer SM is a higher quality.

Yeah, prolly cant even find SG just throwing out what the manual calls for. I might prefer SL to SM though. I dont need the gubmint tellin me how much zinc I can have!

I think the eyes only turn to X's when dead. I think there would be some Z's floating away if it was sleeping.

Yes. Typical 10w30 about 10.5 cSt. Maxlife SL was about that and no moly listed. SM Maxlife is about 1.1 cSt thicker in the 30 wts and has the generous 300 ppm of moly (not to mention the PAO).
