new oil age

My son's car takes 4.4 qts of Mobil 1 0w20. From the 5 qt container used We've been saving 0.6 qts over the last 5 changes which means that I have 3 qts stowed away (3 years worth?). Is this oil still good to use? I suspect it is. Thanks!!!

Was the oil stored in a sealed container in somewhat regulated temperature? If so, yes you should be fine.

In the future, I would recommend pouring your old stock first so you're saving a partial jug of fresh oil every time.

Stored in a capped jug in a garage which sees high temps in the summer. Thanks for the response.

Since my son is moving to Philadelphia next month for the next 3 years, I decided to add 2 qts to the existing saved 3 qts and use it for my wife's 2014 Outback oil change. The last oil change on the Outback was done 30 May 2021 and has been driven only 3K miles since. The short amount of miles over the past year is my justification for waiting so long. If it were a GDI engine I wouldn't wait beyond 6 months.

Well, let's see. That oil had been in the ground a while, say millions of years, before being made into motor oil, so... Maybe it was already bad?

I don't think Mobil 1 0w20 came out of the ground....

As long as the container is sealed it should be fine
