New Mustang GT, smokes at shutdown?

I have a question. Been thinking about trading in my 03 Mustang GT on a new 2005-06, so I took one for a ride. Anyways car is better in every way, performance, handling,interior it is just a better car all around.

After a quick drive around the block, I get out of the car and the salesman says come look at the trunk space. As I am going to the rear I notice the left exhaust pipe has smoke coming out of it. I can also notice a very strong smell of burning oil. This is after the engine has been shut down. We were at the back of the car for about 5 minutes and the whole time you could see small amount of smoke coming out. When I went to the front to look under the hood I also noticed a pretty good oil leak on the intake manifold. It looked like someone tried to wipe it away, but only made it worse by smearing it everywear.
Any how just wondering if you guys Know what would make a brand new engine smoke like that after shutdown?

that seems unusual. I can imagine burning a bit of oil during break in before the rings are fully seated, but if you follow the "new school", "beat the **** out of it" approach on break in, it should happen pretty quickly and not bother you. Oil leaks on a brand new car scare the crap out of me.

I bet it's just some type of anti-corrosion coating on the exhaust pipes or something that's burning off.

I htink most new engines also have some sort of protective coating that gets burned off. This could be the intake manifold leak that you note, as I don't think you'd necassarily see a an oil leak manifest itself so high up.

Or...it could be a lemon

Well, one advantage of buying a car off the lot is that you can always quote Uncle Owen (Luke's uncle in Star Wars) and ask "Hey, what are you trying to push on us?" followed by "What about that blue one? We'll take that one."

Also I fogot to add, last week I was a the dealership getting some minor warranty work done on my car and I saw this same car being worked on. It was still in there a day later when I went to pick mine up.
I broke my car in really hard from day one and have never seen or smelled anything like that was coming out of this one...

Most new model cars will have problems. The 05 Mustang is no different.

Depending on the cause, I'm not sure I'd call those "problems"...wonder what that puddle on the intake is, though.

It most likely is--had a new exhaust system put on my Mustang and it smoked and stunk the first few times I drove it. Yes, it sorta kinda smelled like burning oil.

I saw a new Expedition in the showroom a few weeks ago. Had aftermarket wheels, plus unidirectional tires. All mounted backwards. I'm certain the truck would be great in the rain, driving at high speeds in reverse.

I pointed this out to several salespeople and told the parts counter about it.

A few days later, same truck is there. Same backward tires.

Point being, I doubt anybody would care.

All my VW and Audi cars smoked a dripped a little for the first few hundred miles. In those cases it was the cosmolene melting and dripping on the exhaust manifold or other hot parts. Once the excess cosmolene had run off, the dripping, the smoking, and the smell went away. But I have to add I didn't exactly trail smoke, and I never saw the tailpipe smoke.
