I had a slow leak last Summer. I got the Cub Cadet out today and set it up. The one front tire was flat, aired it up. Two hours later it was flat again. It's about 8 yrs old with some weather checking/ cracks. I don't think it's worth trying to fix. I thought I may try to put a new one on rather than bringing it in. I have the wheel off now.

First off, these tires seem expensive, cheapest 2 ply mid to upper $20's anyway. A 4-ply Carlisle tire is 57 on up. My plan was to get a better tire since I was doing it myself. I watched some U-Tube videos.

What's a good tire & where to get it? No mowing for a few weeks yet, no hurry. Should I put in a new Valve stem too, as suggested? Any other tips? I may order from Amazon.

Amazon sounds like a great idea. I'd go cheap the first time in case you nick the bead or otherwise screw it up. Also since you get weather cracks before the tread wears out...

Valve stem, for sure. Use a stubby one so it's protected by the rim against hitting rocks etc.

how about just sliming it. not good for car tires..
fine for mower.
i put a set of those 58$'s on the jd318

not 2 weeks later took a locust thorn through the tire.

holding with slime so far.

Thanks for the quick tips, that Millertire site looks great. I didn't think to much about the slime because I have cracks right in the tread, may be the source of leaking. I haven't 'soaped it' to find the actual leak. Maybe I'll look before I shop. The tread is good other than the cracking.

The tube idea is possible. I suppose I need the new valve stem too.

O.K., I will try a new tube. The tread is still good anyway. Don't even have to take the tire off? I suppose I can get the valve stem out with the tire pushed in? I'll try it & see how I do.

Sorry guys, I was woo'ed by Wal-Mart. I got a 4 ply Carlisle(sp?) tire installed on the wheel with a new valve stem. After all the nickle & dime fees it was right at $40. The tire seems better than what came with the mower.

Maybe I could of saved $15, but it looks trouble free going forward.
