I just picked up a jug of SN Mobil Super 5000. Didn't realize they also make a Mobil Super Synthetic, as the Walmart I went to did not have it.

This raises a few questions mainly about price. Anybody know how much a 5qt jug of Mobil Synthetic will cost. I paid 12.50 for the Super 5000 ( which claims to have 15 percent more cleaning additives than their basic engine oil? I thought this was the basic engine oil for Mobil).

Thinking maybe I should hold off a few days and see if I can find a price for the Mobil Super Synthetic.
How much better can Mobil 1 be than their Super Synthetic, maybe just the label?

I have not seen the Mobil Super Synthetic in person yet, but I've read somewhere that in the Walmarts that do carry it, that it's priced at $19.00 to compete with Quaker State synthetic.

I have it at my Walmart. $19.00/jug. It is a pretty smart pricepoint, not cheap so some may just say I'll spend the extra $4.50 for the "true syn" M1. So XOM didn't cut their throats as some thought they may with the "Super Syn".

so what is mobils basic oil? it would seem to me super 5000 is now unless i am missing something...i am running it in focus

I need to see a VOA on both M1 and Mobil Super Syn SN QUICK! At $19 a 5qt is very hard not to be interested in it. I just have to wonder what Mobil's idea is to have so many synthetic products. Seems like this new one is going up against itself for less money. Does not seem like the best idea but could work in their favor. I'd definately give it a try for only $19!

Thats like the FRAM technique. All the oil noobs know FRAM because of the shelf space they take at walmart. It is a good move on Mobils part but at the same time theres a lot more oil than filters for sale at walmart.

So the questions are:

- Is this re-badged Mobil Clean 5000?

- Is this better or lower quality than Mobil Clean 5000?

- I believe the statement : " 15% better than " ... may refer to Mobil's bulk oil .
- The new Super 5000 is most likely a re badged SN version of Mobil Clean 5000.

Quaker State Ultimate Durability is dexos1 certified and apparently Mobil 1 SuperSyn is not.

As far as the new Mobil Super 5000 being the same as MC5000...I would agree that it is the SN/GL5 version with new packaging.
As far as this being Mobil's 'most basic' oil, I believe they have more basic conventional oil that are sold in bulk only. The Walmart SuperTech conventional made by E-M is reputed to be one such oil.

Okay 15 percent better than their bulk oil...that makes sense, I forgot about the bulk oil.

And it was 11.50 at Walmart, not the 12.50 as stated in my OP.

XOM is the number one seller of syn oil for a reason. Pennzoil needs to take notes with pricing! If I were running syn, I would jump all over this.

At Wal-mart yesterday, the 5-30 was $1 more per jug than the 5-20....

They had some old stock Clean 5000 back on the shelves along with the Super and the price had gone up from $11.50 to $12.00 for the Super xxW-30 grades but the 5W-20 was Super only and still $11.50. Note that Clean 5000 was never marked down from $12.00 here locally when Super was $11.50 on the shelf beside it.

First of all, go to the Mobil website and you can answer alot of these questions yourself. The new Mobil 5000 has been watered down and should not sell for $11.50 or 12 but $6.50 it has a weak and cheap add pack. Just check the voa on this water. Can you imagine what the new cheaper syn. is like???? OMG

That actually sounds quite plausible...

You get what you pay for. Buyer beware.
