i just saw the post about mobil 1 ep oils.i did not know about them before.i have been using mobil 1 for years. any way i have a 2003 vw beetle with the 2.0 gas eng. i now use mobil 1 0w40 in it & it meets vw spec 502/505.i also have a 2000 beetle with a tdi diesel eng that i use mobil truck & suv in. do the new mobil 1 ep oils meet any of the spec for these engines ?

I THINK the "new" ep oils are more like the "old" M1 oils then the GF4 ones. The EPm1 was made for long life and performance. GF4 specs seem to be geared toward gas milage and flow ability.

Could be wrong? But the EP should work just as well as classic M1 if not better.

vw spec cause for a 5w40 oil. i did not see this weight on mobils web site for the mobil 1 ep. i saw a 10w40 but i did not think that any engines today call for that grade of oil.we have been told in the past that a 10w40 oil was not good for your engine.

The T&S 5w-40 is perfect for the TDI. Many people who test their oil find that the T&S 5w-40 is good for 20Kmi.

In the Beetle, I would think the book calls for 10w30? Why are you using 0w-40? I would suggest using the 5w-40 in the Beetle, or the 10w-40 EP if you are wanting to stay with 40 weight.

I'm a little puzzled by Mobil's strategy at this point. In the midst of the change to the SM standard, Mobil releases a new "top tier" line of oils, the EPs, and they are "only" SL rated. At the same time, what appears to be the predecessor line, "standard" M1 now gets the SM rating. Most of the "standard" line is intact, except that the 15w-50 grade has "migrated" to the EP line. On the other hand, grades 5w30 and 10w30 can be had in both lines. And there's now 10w-40 in the EP line. I'm trying but I'm not understanding what Mobil's up to here. I think a lot of customers are going to be confused. . .

Wow! This is great. Perhaps the most wonderful news this year. So when all my SL stock of Valvoline runs out, I can still get SL oil. And I have heard that the Mobil Clean 7500 is as as good as a "full synthetic" (could legally be called that, but they are being very honest in labeling), and maybe even has ester in it. Did I hear somewhere that it is at Walmart for $2.19 a quart? Deal of the century! Mobil always was the "good guy," selling a much better synthetic for about the same price as the other guys' cheapo Group III.

As for 15w50 moving to the new line that remains SL, I don't think any 15w50 would ever be able to meet the SM tests. Mobil must realize the only vehicles requiring SM use 30 weight or less. And I bet the new EP line meets all the antiwear requirements of SM anyway.

Folks, you just may see me switch away from Valvoline yet (but I do have a three-year supply of SL Valvoline to work through first

i talked to a mobil teck rep to day & he told me that mobil 1 ep had more cleaning & antiware agents that any other oil that they had.it is a much better product for your engine but just did not meet the fuel ecom test at this time but they were working on that.
