New Mobil 1 Advanced Clean

This is the ESP 0W-30 cleaning claim.

Mobil 1 puts "advanced" before theirs I think, Advanced Fuel Economy, Advanced Clean etc.

Mostly everyone has Advanced on their label. Mobil currently has Advanced on all of their full synthetic oils. Valvoline has an entire line called ADVANCED - their main line. Castrol and Super Tech also have Advance on their labels.

yeah you have a good point. What I mean was using "advanced" as an adjective before their target outcome, like How motul has (e)X(tra) Clean / Power / ECO. You know, the common strategy to make it easier for customers to undersand the options. IMO, Mobil 1 is doing quite a bad job on that front, it is not clear which oil targets what. For example if I was not spending hours reading about oil but rather if I was a customer checking oils at a store and looking for a oil to use on the track, the last thing i would consider would be buying ESP, like, I want power and protection, I don`t care about my emission whatever! But it turns out to be high HTHS formula. Pennzoil on the other hand is super simple, like Iphone.

Anyways, lets see if they start naming their other oil differently as well. Perhaps ESP -> Advanced Power/Protection, Advenced Europen Car Formula etc.

Well, it's maybe confusing, but let's keep in mind that the EPS series was established for the European market and that oil sells their for the last 10-15 years. It was designed mainly for the German turbo cars (gasoline and diesel). The emissions are always getting stricter in Europe, so the ESP oil was properly marketed there. It is thick oil with high HTHS, but is safe for the cat. converters and DPFs on diesel engines
The Mobil recently decided to introduce it here (the last 1-2 years) after the good result overseas and oil educated people and car enthusiasts found out it's very robust oil suitable for the track, but initially the oil is not created for race car.

The track suitable Mobil oils (they are not true racing oils) are those part of the FS European Car Formula, that are different than the ESP oils:

Mobil also has a few race dedicated oils:

Mobil 1 Supercar - 0W-40, 5W-50
Mobil1 C40 GT - 0W-40 (this one is specially designed for Porsche GT Cup race cars)
Mobil1 Racing - 0W-30, 0W-50

I appreciate your answer, it is really informative, thank you mate.

Quite honestly, my understanding of their product line (and again, it's confusing) that European Car Formula was the maing Euro oil they have, and ESP was the higher hths version. For my C8 Corvette GM suggested 0w40 supercar with Dexos R, but there was a time that oil was harder to get and wirh mark up. Back then what i was reading on this forum and a corvette forum was that ESP (or ESP formula) 0w40 was the same supercar oil. There are some threads on that:

Correct. The ESP line is the high performance/racing line for euro. Supercar was originally ESP Formula 0W-40. @OVERKILL had posted a Porsche breakdown of each ESP grade that was extremely detailed. Unfortunately it was removed for trademark violations.

Good for Mobil 1. They make good oils but they get complacent, like all juggernauts do.

I'm with Valvoline and Castrol now, not because Mobil 1 is bad, but I just want a change.

Compared to Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w-30:

and Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20:

As we’ve known for some years now; of the EP lineup, only 0w-20 seems to have PAO blended with GTL. The other grades GTL without PAO.
To me it looks like the SDS shows the Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20 has 50-75% of Group 3 and not GTL. Severly hydrotreated heavy paraffin distillate is not GTL

Good catch. That’s my bad, I saw heavy distillates and ignored the severely hydrotreated part. 🤦‍♂️

I primarily meant to indicate the EP line as a whole used to contain PAO and instead all grades; except 0w-20, had changed over to GTL for a while. I was going off memory even when posting the above SDS. It’s not even showing GTL these days! 😅 😮

But yes, 0w-20 is still made with some PAO base and is still a solid candidate for extending OCIs, though I prefer boutique these days given the unpredictable changes to base oil blend that’s happening in OTS synthetics.

That said, this Advanced Clean seems to surpass EP in that department.

Yes, They do seem to like to change the base oils often. I would prefer GTL and POA in the EP instead of G3 and POA
