New Mobil 1 Advanced Clean

Cannot find anything about this oil online, besides this BITOG thread from June 2025:

Looking at the image above (post #51) it looks like a new/another name for what people on here call Mobil 1 vanilla or Mobil 1 regular Full Synthetic oil. Most likely they replaced the "Keeps your engine running like new" with "Advanced Clean".

If it's something new, it will be on the Mobil website. Since it's not there, that tells me it's just rename of an existing product. The vanilla series was missing 0W-20 and they just decided to add it and repackage 5W-20 and 5W-30 as well.

No oil jug image, though.
This is 20k oil. Possibly EP rename but SDS is different.

EP had switched from large part PAO to GTL a few years ago. What’s the SDS of the new product pointing toward?

PAO/GTL blend based on SDS. Probably AN too. IMO this is Mobil 1's new SQ/GF-7 rebranded/improved Mobil 1 Extended Performance. That's what I think this is. Mobil hasn't updated their website.

CAS 28777-98-2:
isooctadecenylsuccinic anhydride (ODSA). This chemical is a widely used industrial material, particularly as a neutral sizing agent in the paper industry to improve waterproof performance, and as a raw material for other fine chemicals and products.

I smell a major let down.
Looking at the photos of the jug now, I think this will flop. Clearly this is a response to Valvoline Restore and Protect , but “prevents up to 100% of harmful sludge formation” doesn’t sound nearly as strong as the claims that the Valvoline Restore and Protect marketing material makes. If it’s the same person choosing which one to buy side by side, I think Valvoline Restore and Protect will be purchased more often and then this will go the way of Annual Protection.

We’ll see though. I’m certainly in favor of another high quality option being made available and want this to be fantastic and do well.

The people at Mobil probably see that the EP series sells better than the regular vanilla series and decided to put 20K miles on the label. I'm not saying that they didn't revize the formula. However, people I know and I don't run Mobil 1 Extended Performance because of the 20K interval, we still change our oil every 5K miles.
I'm not adventurous enough to run any non-boutique oil to 10K or 20K miles.

I would have no problem running this oil for 10k in my Civic. I have run a few different off the shelf oils for this long in the past.

My gut says yes.
If it’s anything of the sort, it speaks to the longterm impact; for better, that Valvoline Restore and Protect will likely have on the market for OTS oils at least.

It’s interesting to hear Amsoil Signature Series has been planning a reformulation, too. Once you effect a companies bottom line long enough, they’ll notice.

It’s still TBD how far formulation will change and how quickly to try to compete with the performance of Valvoline Restore and Protect at the piston deposit reversal, though. (Which I think most of us are most curious about)

Is this simply EP re-bottled (even if newer formulated) to cut into sales of some Valvoline Restore and Protect folks that are currently skipping over EP in favor of the Valvoline Restore and Protect popularity? 🤷‍♂️
Very doubtful. At a minimum we would need to see the revision number of this oil. EP is 6611. That being said the PDS and MSDS are both vastly different. This is a new product. Whether its on the level of Valvoline Restore and Protect or not is a whole other question. Maybe this oil ends up on an episode of engineering explained

Hopefully someone can decipher.

Compared to Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w-30:

and Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20:

As we’ve known for some years now; of the EP lineup, only 0w-20 seems to have PAO blended with GTL. The other grades GTL without PAO.
