Greetings!
Iv'e been reading quite a bit of past posts here and find this website very informative. I'm a huge Mopar nut, and found a few things you guys have mentioned to give me pause to ask a question or 2 of you. I've used Valvoline conventional oil in everything I have owned with good results. I change oil/filter every 3K on all my vehicles. My Jeep Wrangler 4.0(97K) gets 10W30, my Chrysler New Yorker 3.5(128K) gets 10W30 and my wifes Voyager 3.0 gets 10W40(150K)and my 1958 Plymouth Savoy gets 10W40(160K).I see many of you prefer Havoline, and many of you posted comments saying I should probably go with a 40 weight in the Jeep. No smoking/leaking problems on any of the vehicles except the 58 (Oil seals/engine rebuild needed...I hardly take it out so it's not an issue)
#1) Would synthetics or heavier weights do me any good on any of these vehicles, in your opinion? Weather here is temperate, with a few days a year in the low single digits but most winters avg 30 Deg, summers 85 Deg.
#2) Have I been misled all these years on Valvoline's quality? Any comments you guys can give me would be much appreciated, as I plan on taking your advice

used oil analysis on Havoline have been so good, it's hard not to convince you to switch. But if you've have good results that choice is up to you. Valvoline is not really bad per se, just some feel the add pack is kinda weak for what you have to pay, which is one reason Havoline is highly regarded (great add pack and lower price). The 40 wt recommendation in the Jeep is mainly due to better used oil analysis in the 4.0 with the heavier weight (no personal experience there, just going by what I've read here).

I doubt you'd need synthetics, unless you drive your cars like you stole em. But you're not really in any climate extreme to warrant the use of them...

ChrycoPsycho, keep doin' and usin' whatcha always been doin' and usin' - obviously it works for you. Read this forum for laughs. There're a precious few here who actually know what they're talking about. They're easily identified - they don't post often. (And, no, I'm not one of 'em.) Oh, one other thing:

Valvoline is a quality oil and you have been doing pretty well with it in your long term use. As Ray Said, Welcome, take everything with a cup of salt unless one of the real pro's jumps in, and read read , and read some more. It took me several months of reading all the archives to get a grasp on what everyone was talking about. Have fun!.

Based on what I have seen, the real pro's that participate on this site all say that Valvoline products are very good. Their are some folks on this site that will comment on Valvoline conventional's weak additive package but, the reality is that they have no more knowledge of the true chemistry of the product than the rest of us non-experts. The Valvoline used oil analysis that I have seen here are good, some very good. I hope that one or two of the pro's will chime in and support what I am saying. The bottome line is that Valvoline will serve you well as will any of the top brands of motor oil.

Nothing wrong with 3K OCI's using Valvoline A.C.

It's the longer OCIs that get questionable.

Stay with it & don't try to fix something that ain't broke.

hi as the name implys , i am a jeep man, running dinos on 3k oci is fine, i run Valvoline in most my cars last 25 years with the 3k, including four jeeps, not a problem

, regular maintence will do you fine, i have never really used xxw-040w in my jeeps, when the milage goes up just add a little oil as needed, been running 10w30, some MMO as needed, and AUTO RX as needed, and purolator filters

synthetic, i feel is for newer cars, as jeep engine design until recently is old school, i just cant see spending that much, especially on 3k intervals, i would use it on newer cars if i had one, it can have its benefits,

the jeeps just make noise period, so valvle train noise is normal, no matter what oil wieght, also the rear oil leak i have seen in jeeps with as little as 5k on clock, just take it to dealer if under warranty or do it yourself, parts are cheap

Valvoline quality is good , not STELLAR

, but GOOD, you should be fine...............good luck.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!! Any bargain basement oil is good for 3K changes. Unless you plan to REALLY stretch your intervals Valvoline is plenty good enough!

You are fine run the correct garde (you are) and
change out 3-4K (you are) and no problems your oil is fine use the latest spec (SM).

I want to take this time to thank each and every one of you for your replies, and thanks for the welcome! As I'm sure you all can see, I care about all my vehicles and only want the best for them; treat them right, they serve you well! I've always used Pure One filters,(97TJ) and I plan on taking all your advice: if it aint broke, don't fix it! I'll keep on keepin on and am positive I'm going to enjoy this forum...!
