These are horrible tires for snow. I know. They were OE on my focus and I got stuck in a few inches of snow, repeatedly.

Where did you see this? On Kumho's website, it says that they have a road hazard protection during the first 2/32" of wear:

Well, that was pretty much how I took the '25%' comment - all sizes of the Ecsta 4X look to have 10.5/32" new tread depth, so if you discount that first 0.5/32" (why do manufacturers bother trying to define tread depth down to 0.006" anyway?) as your 'scuff' during break-in, the usable tread on the tire amounts to 8/32".

Oh, I read that differently. I read it as if the tire fails at any point above which 25% of the tread depth is REMAINING, they replace the tire.

I'll hold out for some real reviews on new tires. Otherwise, it's a gamble. I need A/S tires to be good in winter. Many are not.
The Kumho Ecsta ASX is a good all-season tire, this new Ecsta 4X is to replace the ASX and I think it is as good or more likely better than ASX.
I pulled the trigger on a set of these for my TSX. Discount Tire Direct has a $50 rebate for any set of 4 tires or wheels. I ended up buying a set of Konig wheels, too, so I am eligible for $100 in DTD rebates, and another $50 Kumho rebate.
I have the Fierce Instinct tires by Kelly/Goodyear. They look real similar to Goodyear's own Eagle GT.
I'm very pleased with the traction in all conditions and the service life. I'm a little over the 30,000 miles they are warranteed for and have another 2/32nds or so before I get to the wear bars. I would get another set but they are so noisy.
Really noisy. like I'm driving on heavy blocked mud tires.
But they are better than Exclaims in wet and ice and as good as Potenza RE040s in dry.

I had Kumho Ecsta ASXs. Soft sidewalls, and not so hot wear.
